Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

This 1960 Devin D has been parked for a number of years, under both the previous and current owner’s care. It is in need of a complete restoration, but includes a number of spare parts. When it was first built, it had a Porsche 356 Super motor and 356B brakes, but it currently has a VW Beetle engine and brakes installed. The seller started working on it, but lost steam and parked it. They are now cleaning out some of their old projects and this one can be found here on eBay.

Like many motor heads, Bill Devin dreamed of building a car that could compete with the finest of Italian sport cars. While he owned and raced several Ferraris, he wanted something that was more dependable, lighter, and still attractive. In 1955, he began fulfilling his dream when he sold his first car, the Devin Panhard. The next model he came out with the D. It came as either a complete car or a kit and could accept VW or Porsche components. When the seller bought this D, the Porsche engine needed to be rebuilt, so to save money they installed a Beetle engine. Thankfully, they still have all the original Porsche parts and are including them in the auction.

This American Special has a lot of potential as a driver or a track car, but it also needs a lot of work. If rebuilding the Porsche engine isn’t too costly, we would want to put it back in the trunk and set it up for track days and vintage racing. Otherwise, we would clean it up and just drive it with the VW parts in place. No matter what the next owner decides to do with it, we just hope they get it back on the road soon, so the rest of us can enjoy seeing it. If you remember seeing this car at some point in time, we would love to hear more about its history.
