While we generally associate low mileage with preserved specimens, this 1991 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 bucks that trend by showing a healthy 129,350 miles on the odometer and still presenting incredibly well. While there’s a chance it was repainted, the nicely aged interior points to lots of TLC from Day 1. Find the Camaro here on eBay with a $9,900 Buy-It-Now and the option to submit a best offer.
On that last part, I agree that a best offer is a more likely means of generating a sale, as close to $10K seems very strong for even a nice example like this Z28. The miles are simply too high to command that kind of price tag. However, the nicely preserved paint, rear spoiler, color-matched wheels, and OEM mudflaps all point to a car that belonged to a Chevy enthusiast.
The interior is perhaps even more impressive for its condition in spite of the mileage. The seats show only modest wear, and the cracked dashboard is the biggest giveaway about the car’s mileage. Frankly, it’s surprising, as the rest of it is so nice and presents as a car that was garaged since new. Usually, prolonged exposure to sun or constant heat cycling is what causes these dash tops to go bad, but this car lives in Illinois and presents as a vehicle that was garaged.
The seller sadly offers few details on the mechanical health of the Camaro, just mentioning that it runs and drives well. The engine bay presents well, with no obvious signs of neglect. Fortunately, these are fairly easy cars to live with, and if the condition on display here indicates a prolonged commitment to upkeep by a prior owner, it should be a fairly safe bet – but at a lower price than offered.
My adult self doesn’t know why my kid self thought the spoiler and color keyed wheels were nice additions to these cars.
I have a black 1991 Camaro RS because I preferred the cleaner look of the small spoiler & smooth hood. Also unpainted aluminum wheels. The wing just seemed goofy to me when they were new.
This is my 1991 with higher mileage and looks just as nice in and out. It’s an RS with T-tops.
Brian here is mine. 240k miles!
I also liked the rear spoiler when these came out ended up buying a 93 cobra instead.
Hat spoiler ruined thes…i prefer my 86 i built….plus idk what they were thinking w that hood….dash is an easy recover….i sold mine built for 5600 and it was a built 383 stroker….hes crazy on price….
Jaydawg my friend in high school had a 91 RS. In hindsight it was a better looking car. a small lip on the hatch and the old Z28 wheels. It was a V6 though which was a downer..
Same! My friend(his dad) had one that we skipped school in. It was a green RS (V8) with t-tops.
Nice RS Brian. The wheels looked good on white and grey cars. Not so good on other colors like red..
129K isn’t “high mileage” on a car approaching 30 years old. It’s a figure that is being represented accurately, unlike many of the so called “low mileage” cars from the era of 6 digit odometers that have obviously turned over but have been maintained well enough to fool the uninitiated.
A lot of people bought and stored these anticipating that the 1960s muscle car boom would simply repeat itself. As a result, there’s tons of them with low mileage. This car has very high mileage relatively for one of these models.
I had a black 1991 with the G92 and 305 5-speed combo that I sold in 2013 for $7,000, and it had 65,000 miles on it. I don’t see this getting more than five grand truthfully. At 5k it would be a pretty good hobby car for somebody. But at the asking price you might as well just get a super low mileage one.
I had a red 91 like this, except smaller spoiler and the 305 that sucked gas like a pig.
My then girlfriend wasn’t impressed with it. Too low for her. I enjoyed it about 6 months and sold it to a guy that got out of the Army.
I have a 1991 B4C it was a 305 5 speed. When I bought it the car had 77k on it. I am the fourth owner. The guy I bought it from never drove it and trailered it to my house. I won the lottery the day I bought it….or so I thought. My “guru” highly recommended that I buy it because it was a great buy. I had to undo all the things the second owner did to it. You have to be careful when buying one of these. First thing you need to do is check the casting number on the block. Most of these third gens do not have the correct motors in them. Mine had a 5.7 out of a half ton pick up in it ( I was told the motor was the original when I bought it). I figured this out after I changed the oil in it and it developed a rod knock after about 5 mins of driving it. The guy I bought it from ( a friend of a friend….so much for that) claimed the car ran fine in his possession and he was shocked that it had a rod knock. It is very easy to swap a junkyard motor in these things good luck finding a correct L98 or big cam LB9. I ended up having a built crate motor installed and the WC T5 rebuilt. Now the issue I have is not roasting the tires in first and second each time I get on it.
I like the headline that it’s “high mileage.” Meanwhile in another publication there’s an ad with a Chrysler LH (Last Hope for Lido Iacocca) with 269,000 miles saying it was “low miles.” Compared to what? The space shuttle. Hanging his hat on the fact that 12k to 15k miles/yr. is normal, evidently.
Everytime I see one of these is good shape my heart tugs at my wallet to buy it. Especially with the spoiler and color keyed wheels. Thankfully for my already full garage, my wife talks me down.
Seems awfully high priced with high mileage. I have a white 1991 Z/28 hardtop with the G80, G92, C60 (AC) and KC4 (oil cooler) options powered by 230 HP LB9 305 TPI backed by T-5 trans and 3:42 axle posi rear combo. The car gets far more looks today than I ever could have imagined. I don’t know if the gawkers think the car looks sharp being 100% original or cannot believe one is still on the road and not trashed/rusted out like most were. It has 78K original miles including every comfort feature option along with all the factory documentation.
These third-gen Camaros are going up in value. This one needs a few cosmetic things to look good. It’s a dealer and they had a 1991-1992 RS a couple months ago for sale they were asking more than I would pay. This one seems like its a lot better priced than that RS. If its a G92 then I would say it isn’t too far off.
