Priced To Sell: 1976 Porsche 912

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

The seller of this 1976 Porsche 912 claims it is priced to sell, with a $19,500 asking price and the option to submit a best offer. This one feels like a mixed bag to me, with some big jobs done but a questionable repaint (and apparently a great expense) and other damage that indicates poor storage and/or care in the past few months. The original color, Sand Beige, is quite pretty and would help drive a higher price for a car that relies heavily on originality to capture buyers’ attention. Find it here on eBay and located in Richmond, Virginia.

The seller notes this 912E is one of only a few hundred equipped with a sunroof and A/C. That makes it unflattering color change more jarring, given it has some options that make it a bit rarer than your garden variety 912. Put simply, the blue metallic paint job (said to cost $9K) just isn’t period appropriate for a late 70s 912. Interestingly, there’s a second price option of $14,995 if the seller removes the front and rear seats, console, door panels, muffler, battery and gas tank prior to sale for installation in another 911 he owns. I’m assuming the $19,500 price would include all of those items.

Here’s the damage to the front valence, which seems like the kind that’s inflicted when a low-hanging valence is dragged backwards across a parking barrier, or coming off of a flatbed. The front bumper trim is also missing along with the turn signal lens on the passenger side. Fuchs alloy wheels are always a good look and these appear quite clean. The undercarriage is said to be in nice shape, and while there’s no evidence of rust, a weepy sunroof seal may indicate water intrusion into the cabin is an issue; despite this, the seller says the headliner is one of the better aspects of the interior.

The seats, dash and console all do look quite good, and the seats were likely re-done at some point. The steering wheel is an aftermarket item but looks like a Petri or Prototipo-style wheel. The seller notes a recent brake rebuild but that the brakes also now leak fluid, so it sounds like a fitting or hose isn’t secure or needs replacement. I’d recommend contacting the seller before making an offer, as the pricing info is hazy considering two options are listed – and confirming you’re not buying a stripped down 912 is a must-do before committing to buy.

Tan paint job would be more desirable?
Yes I’d like to have the same color as 100,000 blue hairs and their Chevies…
Sorry for the rant but why did people ever order diaper interior brown?
    Not sporty.

Call me heretic but I always preferred the slotted-disc chrome wheels & hubcaps on 912’s. I didn’t like the Fuchs much on anything. They always looked like they needed several hours of Simichrome polish to look halfway decent. I’m a big fan of blue paint but on this car a non-metallic navy blue is the only color that suits it.

There are a lot of issues with this car, not the least of which is the front bumper/valance damage. And saying you can buy the car but you can’t have the interior? What a bunch of BS.

I love me some 912 but not with so many strings attached. Pass.

Minor damage should have been repaired before listing. I would Run away from this!

Hate if you want, but these are rare cars. One year only model…couple thousand of them made. It would have been nice to find the ebay ad but from the minimal pictures I don’t think the price is terrible. Especially if they take offers

Should have painted it “Miami Blue”, like on the latest 911.
