Update 7/6/11 – This TVR has been relisted here with a lower buy it now of $24,900!
The Grantura was the first car TVR manufactured, with production beginning in 1958. The Grantura was a fiberglass body on steel frame design and borrowed components from countless other vehicles. By the time this Grantura was manufactured in ’62 there were two engine options. Either a Ford 1.3L or an MGA 1.6L, this particular car has a race tuned MGA engine which we would assume is the 1.6L. This car is designated as a Mk IIA, which means it was a Mk II that had the front clip of the early Mk III. The Mk II Grantura is a fairly rare vehicle with only about 400 having been built. This rare TVR is available on eBay for a BIN price of $31k.
While TVRs are pretty hard to find in the States, we wouldn’t be too concerned about finding parts for this one. These early TVRs borrowed heavily from MG, using a lot of part from the MGA parts bin. Most parts should be available here in the States, with only a few parts having to be source from Europe.
We would love to see this car on the road or track again. It is currently prepped for vintage racing, with all the required safety equipment already installed. This car was listed on eBay about a month ago with a BIN of $33K, so we would keep watching it to see if the seller drops the price more. These TVR are very rare, especially here in the states, but given its current configuration for racing it may be a hard sell at its current price. If we knew it had some form of race history we would be more interested in it at this price.
Used to run my Super 7 against Don Ensley and his Grantura at Waterford Hills Michigan. These were great looking little cars and Don’s was also fast. The only TreVoR I ever owned was a 280i. Not as classy as this one.
