In 1974, Pontiac introduced a new front end for the Firebird. Pontiac offered four models including the base Firebird, Esprit, Formula, and Trans Am. The Formula had three sub-models designated by the engine size – Formula 350, Formula 400, and Formula 455. This is listed as a 1974 Pontiac Formula 455 which is pretty rare but read on to find out more. It is painted Cameo White with a black interior. The car is listed here on eBay with 21 days remaining in the auction. The seller has listed this Formula 455 for an asking price of $18,250 which can be selected with a Buy It Now button but there is also a make offer option. The Formula is located in Katy, Texas just west of Houston.
The black interior looks to be in fair condition but has some custom touches. For example, the seats have been recovered in a two-tone cloth and the door panels have also been covered in matching colors. An aftermarket tachometer is fastened to the steering column and aftermarket gauges have been flush-mounted in the console. A B&M automatic transmission shifter replaces the factory shifter.
The engine under the hood is a Pontiac 455 cubic inch V8 that replaced the original 350 cubic inch V8 engine. This is likely a Y code 455 engine which was rated at 250 horsepower in 1974 and was installed in the Formula unless you ordered a Super Duty 455 engine. The seller believes that the 96,000 miles on the odometer are accurate. The engine is backed by an automatic transmission and the exhaust exits the car via what appears to be 2-inch dual exhausts. The Formula is sitting on aftermarket wheels and tires.
The seller says that the car was originally a California car and has been in Texas for the last 12 years. It is said to be a good running and driving car. The undercarriage picture indicates that the car does not suffer from major rot and the seller notes there is a small oil leak. This appears to be a solid car listed at a reasonable price.
Nice car but all of the owner’s modifications are going to hurt the value.
This one makes me sad. Modded plain jane Firebird looking for Formula money.
The VIN Number decodes as a Formula, so not sure where you are getting the idea that it’s a regular Firebird.
As a friend of mine would say, “That ole girl looks like she’s been propped up.”
The engine under the hood is a Pontiac 455 cubic inch V8 that replaced the original 350 cubic inch V8 engine, So it’s a Formula 350 with a ADDED 105 Cubic Inches. Hell the interior has all been changed why not. Nice Bird but I’ll give it the BIRD that kind of money.
