Rare Kremer Widebody: 1979 Porsche 911SC

We all know that the Porsche 930 is a monster, one of the foremost supercars to come out of the 1970s. It’s long been known as the “widow maker” owing to its abilities to expose the weaknesses in drivers not equipped to handle such a beastly turbocharged car. The seller of this 1979 930 here on eBay notes that the subject car benefits from some tasty modifications of the cosmetic kind courtesy of Kremer Racing, which made the already-plump 930 even more so courtesy of a widebody kit.

Bids sit at just over $41,000 with the reserve unmet, not surprisingly. What is more surprising is there’s no mention of any performance modifications, as Kremer was certainly known for building supercars out of sports cars. It’s entirely possible there are some tweaks under the engine lid, but those details aren’t shared in the listing. Regardless, there’s no denying this 930 has some seriously sexy hips and makes for an ideal backdrop for the generous whale tail.

This 930 has the European-style cloth interior, and many of these cars were brought over as gray market imports. The condition is superb with no signs of major wear and tear. The dashboard shows no cracks and the Kremer-branded carpets are in mint condition. Can you imagine being the first guy to own this car in 1980, buying a 930 Turbo and then asking the likes of a tuning company like Kremer to make it even wider? Talk about status.

Mileage is listed as being just over 61,300, so while it’s definitely been used, it hasn’t been overly used. The good news is the 930 was known for being fairly robust, so you could certainly drive a 930 with some regularity without fear of compromising overly sensitive internals. The 930 is made extra desirable for also being a rare sunroof delete model, so it has more than a few things going for it. Throw in the fact that is has A/C and you’re looking at a pretty sweet all-rounder sports car.

It is not a turbo. Engine compartment photo is a 3 litre SC.

Yah- the 1979 930 also came with more metal in the unibody in critical areas- along with beefier suspension bits, and bigger brakes- seeing no turbo on the motor, no underside shots and no good look at the brakes makes me wonder what this is exactly

No turbo, as someone pointed out, but loads of extra weight and wider, so slower than a standard SC. No thanks.

That’s nothing, the same seller has a 1989 930 special ordered by the ruler of Qatar with a 5 speed…and the interior is the chef’s kiss!
