The third-generation Chevrolet Camaro continues to rise a wave of increasing popularity, owing much of its popularity to the burgeoning “rad”-era movement. And while plenty of automatic-transmission coupes are coming to the surface, the manual transmission third-generation model is seemingly in far shorter supply. This particular car is described as a recent barn find that is in solid cosmetic condition and still runs and drives; it also has the rare 5-speed and T-top roof. Find it here on craigslist for $12,500, which the seller claims is negotiable.
This Camaro has definitely been hiding out of sight for some time, with mold on the steering wheel, a wrecked dash pad, and grungy carpets. Surprisingly, the bucket seats are in excellent condition. The seller doesn’t provide much in the way of details about how or why it ended up as a barn find, but whatever the situation is/was, it seems like it was stored with some care (moldy steering wheel notwithstanding.) The T-tops and 5-speed options certainly make this Camaro a standout, as I can’t imagine there are too many left with that exact spec.
The engine bay is clean enough for a car that’s been sitting, and the seller claims it runs strong. He has some additional work to do, like draining the old gas and installing a new fuel filter, but the fact it runs well without doing those things is encouraging. The interior will need a carpet kit and some dash work, but the seller promises the paint is a seven out of 10 and that there’s no major rot to address underneath. This seems like a good buy to me, especially if the seller is being honest about having some wiggle room on the price.
A. It’s not a Z28, all Zs were TPI not throttle body injection
B. It’s a RS with Z28 parts
C. I’m betting there is floor rot as bad as that carpet looks
D. If he gets $12.5k for this I should get $36k for my mint 89 Real T/A
Sorry not trying to be critical but I’ve noticed a lot of these for sale lately and they do not show abuse well, it’s very easy spot a good one and a bad one, good ones are bringing good money now, beater’s aren’t at 68,69,70 beater Charger values yet.
Ok I looked at the ad and the wrong motor pic is on Barn Finds, it is a TPI so very well may be a Z however, it’s still not at $12.5k value, car has IROC wheels not original, around headlights should be painted black, may have been a repaint, ground fx are broken on drivers door, missing trim on drivers door. I was wrong about motor, oops. I’m crabby I quit smoking lol
Only IROCs got the black treatment around the headlights. Last IROC was 1990.
Half right. My 92 RS had black headlight treatments.
Wrong, Google pics and you’ll see, all Zs 82-92 whether IROC or not got the black headlight treatment. Only Zs got this, NO RS or any other model. You’ll see some with the black but it’s not factory.
Sorry bud I ordered my 92 RS 25th anniversary brand new and it came with black headlight treatments from the factory. It was part of the package and is listed on the sticker.
You’re right, forgot about that package, good catch! Also forgot the Berlinettas were blacked out around the headlights.
Did not know about the Berlinetta having that feature. Very cool. I dug the digital dash in those.
That front driver’s seat is not in excellent condition. Looks like it needs new padding at least.
It is a good looking car but the little things brought up don’t justify the 12K. At least it’s negotiable.
If the TPI engine is the original, it has to be a Z28. TPI was not available on the RS. That being said, it’s still all the money and then some for a fairly basic Z28 (crank windows and such) Z28 with some needs. Mold needs moisture, so the T-top seals are definitely suspect, and depending on how long they’ve been leaking, the floors could be suspect, as well. If I were in the market for a 3rd generation Z28, I’d keep looking.
How about fixing that engine pic? Looks a bit like a Dodge D-series pickup engine compartment.
Yep – the photo is from the Dodge Ramcharger featured earlier.
The t-top seals are NOT suspect. They leak. They always leak.
Not a barn find as claimed in the ad. Rather, it’s an outside find where those T-Tops leaked like crazy.
Sorry, it’s in need of a restoration. And the value just isn’t there.
There is mold all over the steering wheel. That radiator is out of some 60s or 70s GM car. All 90s cars had filler cap at end or at the overflow. Way overpriced.
Didn’t that yearmodel have different wheels?
Yup.
