At first glance, this 1960 Pontiac Bonneville looks pretty darned nice, but thankfully reader Bob L. is being very honest about the true condition of the car–there are a few things to be sorted out. That being said it’s a real beauty of a driver and Bob is encouraging a visit and inviting offers against the $16,995 asking price –always good signs! The car is located in Canton, Ohio. If you are interested, please contact him using the form at the bottom of this post!

Asking Price: $16,995 obo
Location: Canton, Ohio
Mileage: 42,569
Title Status: Clean
VIN: 360L9440

Seller’s Description: Per Bob: It’s a project car, but it would be a good one to restore! It has the 389 V8, automatic, power steering and brakes, recent new black paint job, the bodywork was done to a decent level, the interior has white seats, blue dash, and it runs and drives. This is not a project we wish to tackle, the man who sold us this car lied a lot about the issues it has.

Body Condition: The recent paint job is fairly decent, but not perfect, bodywork fairly straight but a lot of it. Moron attached side trim with sheet metal screws, grille and bumpers are pretty good. Floors, and truck not bad either. You need to come look it over. Fairly solid Tennessee car. The window controls and interior door panels are missing.

Mechanical Condition: 389 V8 and automatic run and drives, the brakes seem pretty good. The chassis has bent control arms and A-arms, we have no clue what they were doing with it, but plan on doing some work in this area. Needs some reassembly including side windows, door panels, and some of the trim is damaged or missing.

Thanks to Bob for the colorful and thorough description — a little work and you could have a great cruiser! If you would like to sell your classic vehicle, you can list it with us here on Barn Finds!

Still looks like a good start body wise.

Good looking car, stunning in black! Looks like the majority of what needs to be done could be done in some reasonably skilled weekend warrior’s home garage and he could end up with a real winner.

Doesn’t look like a barn find to me .(((

Screw the barn find nonsense. A lot of the cars seen here are field finds and I’ve seen no grousing about that. There is no particular honor that I see in spending tons more in fixing up a barn find than merely fixing up a better cared for car. The goal of the hobbyist should be to ensure that as many of the old cars would be restored and preserved for the enjoyment of present and future generations. That would be more easily attained starting with cars that have driven past a barn sometime in its life rather than one abandoned in a barn some place with an old pool table sitting on its roof, other debris jammed in along the side and a rust body because the roof started to leak and was never repaired. My guess is that a lot of under financed-dreamers buy the marginal barn finds and soon discover they can’t afford to bring them back to life, so they just rot at the new buyer’s place.

This car has the right body lines for the color black..I really like 59-60 GM bodies, very sleek and eye catching. Not sure about the price if it still needs that much work. Nice car though.

    Beautiful car.
I would prefer the ragtop…but you don’t lose much in the way of open-air feel with the pillarless hardtop

What bothers me most is the “side trim attached with sheet metal screws”. Could be very expensive to fix- and what else wasn’t done right?

I didn’t read that part about the sheet metal screws, where did you see it?

Great car. Parts for this car are not that easy to find. I own the same car in a 4 door. It was my dads. He purchased it back in 1988 i believe.

“Wide-Trackin” was the order of the day. Ads always depicted the stance much wider than for real, but it sold a lot of Poncho’s. Recent paint, WHY BLACK??? Couldn’t you see this in a nice burgundy or blue? I guess it’s a “no-color” world today. They sure were nice cars.

Seems like a high price to me considering the remaining work to be done.

Seller: Price is negotiable, car has some good points but does need work, come see it and we can talk.

Non-buyer: The price should be negotiable as there are probably some undiscovered issues.

The only thing I don’t like about black is it hard to keep clean. I love the body style, and the fact that it’s the same age as I am. One concern I have is if Bob was lied to about condition it makes me wonder what might be lurking under that shiney black paint, it could be a bondo bucket. Good luck to you Bob in selling it and thanks for your honesty.

Back in 62 or 63 a guy in high school had a 60 Pontiac 2dr. HT he drove to school and cruised around our small town. Loved the looks of them then and still do to this day.

Back in around 1970 I had a white 1960 Pontiac Bonneville convertible with the then called Tri- colored interior. Power seats, windows, steering and brakes and of course the 389 C I engine. These Pontiacs were advertised as WIDE TRAC cars I still remember replacing the white convertible top ordered from J C WHITNEY back in those days. lol.
