This is “bandit one” here and looking down on your car makes me and old Jerry say one thing. Don’t try and profit off my demise and of course don’t take Coors beer from Texarkana across state lines.

Seriously this is over priced and RIP Burt!

    It will restore nice 👍

That’s why he says make an offer. There’s always wiggle room if you’re a serious buyer and have cash!

Doubt the seller is willing to wiggle that much!

Neat car. Yes, the Y88 is rare (about 6k built), but it is not yet desirable. The Y84 (Black/gold) cars still way out value the “gold bandit”. Add on top of that, this is not a W72 car (performance 400 Pontiac instead of 403 Olds) nor is it a WS6 car (performance suspension), it is missing it’s gold T Tops, (in fact, not a single piece of the SE Y88 package exists in the exterior that I can see) no interior or underhood pics, etc etc. Right now, it’s still special, but to a limited audience. I’d venture to guess that $5k is a lot more realistic for the moment.

Where did the WS6 wheels go? WS6 cars had deeper dished wheels.

Hello all, seller here, I updated the Craigslist ad with additional pictures. The car comes with two sets of rims. The correct rims are shown off the car. I wrapped a restored set in found with brand new tires last week so I could move the car. They have ZERO miles on them

Why does the hood scoop look like it’s collapsed into the engine compartment? Busted motor mount?

I’m guessing that most of the people complaining every time that a 403 powered Trans Am is posted, that it is not a 400, wouldn’t know the difference if one fell on them. The cars are approaching 40 years old. If you a that much of a performance freak then surely you are going to have to rebuild the engine at some point. Stuff all the performance parts in it that you want. Technology has advanced a lot since then.

This one is actually 41 years old, so not approaching, but past.

The 403 is a great engine with some massaging, tge 400, stock, especially in 1978 had a whole lot more punch. The reality is that now these cars are more for cruisers, and a lot less for performance. Mainly, not having the 400 reduces it’s value.

No accidents. Don’t pay attention to the left front corner then?

It has some dents and a few missing plastic pieces, but it’s original paint and sheetmetal, that’s all I was saying!

How much without the chicken? Sorry, I know many like the big bird on the hood. But like some others very gaudy if not tacky. No offense to others tastes but nice paint beats decals.

    Doubtful it’s a Y88.
Pontiac also offered gold T/As in 78 that weren’t S/Es. Difference was: no blacked out window trim, optional non-gold tinted T-tops, optional WS6 suspension package and wheels, no “all over” brown pinstriping, no gold grille shells and all black steering wheel, column, console and seatbelts.

Y88s included all that as standard equipment plus the interior was all tan – no black trim. The trim plate and build sheet would tell the tale!

I own a non Y88, so I know the difference.

Hi Rob, yes it’s a real Y88, its lost a bunch of the Gold things over the years, it’s a little rough, but a solid restoration project matching numbers, documented car of the Pasadena ,CA Plant. Look above a I posted a pic of the original buildsheet and PHS docs

To all the negative commentators; you are not buying it; so why all the negativity? Obviously none of you realize it is a 40 year old car priced very fairly for the condition; which is pretty good in my PROFESSIONAL opinion. Geez!

Does it come with some Doobie Brothers and Ted Nugent 8 track tapes?? Maybe some Fleetwood mac or Boston?
Sally Fields was chirpy and annoying,, but if i could find some 20 something that looked like Debra Winger in her prime,Bell bottoms and a cowgirl hat,, now that would be something.
(Lonnie Anderson would be cool as well)
PS, Didnt James Garner Drive one of these gold ones? A detective show… I think a few got blown up on that show.

Its remarkable to me, & we see it over and over that people will offer up commentaries yet dont read the other comments and responses.
I predict today, and next few days there will me multiple comments of “I doubt its a Y88”. I feel bad for the sellers in these instances “DUDE! Heres the documentation!” Followed by another “Definitely NOT a Y88”.

Reading comprehension is a lost art. I see it all the time.

Agreed sluggo much unnecessary negativity here absent of knowledge. To each his own. I have owned a number of Y88’s and currently own a beauty. These are unique cars in a sea of black and gold wannabe’s. I was surprised this car has everything except the W72 400. Also the Cowl will tell you it’s a Y88 in most cases (since this is a CA car it may not be there however the PHS docs prove it.) Another note is the steering wheel (not really a big deal these are swapped all the time) and column (a little strange but looks like its painted) are stock tan to match the interior. Not picking just pointing out things to look for to ID the car – mine has a black steering wheel and that’s the first thing the purists pointed out and I told them to shut it – lol. Good luck seller.
