READER AD: 1979 Ford Bronco Ranger XLT

What Makes It Special? I bought this Bronco from the original owner last November. It had been in an open-sided barn behind his house for the past 18 years after he bought a new Ford truck in 2001. It is still original paint (tangerine orange/cream white), interior, drivetrain, top, and spare.

Body Condition: Original. Rusted through rear wheel arches, driver’s door bottom, tailgate. Solid floors, window areas, door posts, jams, sill plates, etc. There are surface blemishes in the paint, trim, glass, etc due to age. I had the paint polished. It’s thin and worn through in places.

Mechanical Condition: 351 v8, 4-speed manual, ps, pb, NO A/C. Freshly cleaned gas tank, all fluids changes, brakes flushed, rebuilt carb, and new battery. It starts, runs, drives great!
(4) new 33 x 12.5 x 15″ Falken radial all terrain tires, which cost $800. Blasted and painted old 15″ x 7″ 5 lug white spokes with gloss black single stage enamel over epoxy primer.  New lug nuts and valve stems.

Reader Billy K is ready to let this Bronco go. Over the past few years, we’ve seen values skyrocket for these old SUVs. This one isn’t perfect, but it looks like a fairly nice driver and should be a fun truck to have! Be sure to take a closer look via the link below.

12k for a rusty Bronco with no detail pics of the rust. The world’s gone mad.

I hate to rip on anyone’s ad but agree with Grant especially since its a reader’s ad. The seller is asking $12k for the wrong domestic brand. If it had a Bow Tie and pictures of clean underbody and structural panels behind the tail gate I could possibly see reason behind the asking price. As it sits $5-$6k would be reasonable.

BTW, I don’t have sides when it comes to domestic brands. My current ride is a Ford product.

If it had a bowtie wouldnt be worth half of what this Bronco is and the Bronco isnt worth over 3-4 k with its rust issues and no AC

I love this body style but 12,900 is way over priced I paid 1000 for mine 3 years ago in better condition and lifted with ac

Bongo, take a look at the K5 values and you will see they are much stronger than the Broncos of similar vintage. With half cab removable back roof of this Bronco lack of a/c is not an issue and would not impact value much. Vintage Air is an easy addition if one so chooses. In fact an updated a/c system may be preferred in the vehicle this old. However, the biggest selling point here is the manual transmission.

The rust that’s admitted to and unseen greatly reduces the value of this “find,” it be great if no rust totally clean.

Who care’s if your a Ford man you disdain bow ties. Personally as long as it’s not Mopar it’s all good. It don’t take much money to repair/ replace those rusty wheel arches. A friend of mine who is a body man told me he does this kind of stuff quite often and it’s relatively simple to do.

I say it all the time, not everything old is a Gold Mine. This is a bit under average condition Bronco with decent paint. Maybe in another 18 years behind his house he will be able to get $12,900 but in a reality based here and now it’s a dream.
