At first glance, this F150 just looks like a super clean old Ford truck, but it’s so much more than that! Reader Bradley H gave it a full restoration, making it look as good as new, but once he got to the mechanicals he went a different route than original. He had the original 460 V8 balanced, blueprinted and stroked. It’s not a displacing 545 cubic inches and has been dynoed at almost 600 horsepower! Now, this is what you call a sleeper. Be sure to take a closer look at his ad via the link below.

Thats alot of money for a ’79’, a forty year old truck,.. even with the sleeper package and bolt off restoration, its nice but dont see the appeal for a F150…
I could buy a nice used Duramax for that money….
Best looking truck ford ever made and im a chevy guy. Big engine with the sleeper/ old man truck look. This would be a fun toy
If only it was 4wd! I don’t think it’s over priced, it would be hard to build one for the money.
So it went from 6 mpg to what, 3?
Should have stuffed that engine into an old fox body for a toy and dropped a 300-6 into the pick-up. At least that’s what I think I would have done.
Steve,
You beat me to it. I had the same thought on the fuel mileage. This is another case of B/J – Mecum disease. Wanting way more than top dollar and the heater isn’t even hooked up. The vacuum canister on the inner fender is dented and, loose wires under the dash are some of the reasons it’s not an over the top truck. Therefore, it doesn’t warrant an over the top price.
It’s more likely someone added up their receipts to come up with an asking price. It’s too much money for a long bed, the collector end of the market doesn’t value them nearly as much as short beds. The stroker engine doesn’t add value, they would have been better off with a mild V8, they would have spent considerably less on the truck and could reflect that in the asking price.

Do you think gas mileage is a concern? I don’t suspect anyone will use this as a daily driver.
WillieGee,
You’re right that it will never be used a a daily driver but, who wants to spend a dollar per mile once in a while to cruise around town?
yea a stock 460 will suck gas like no tomorrow- those mods will cut it to ribbons like the guys said.
To me, short boxes are worthless, I’ll never buy one.The problem is, it seems like every truck sold today is a short box, especially in a half ton. Finding a used long box is getting harder every year.
Now wait a minute guys. This truck gas the rare intermittent wiper option. That’s gotta be worth the price if admission.
The guy that invented that, never got a dime. How many cars have intermittent wipers today?
Very sharp truck, and I’d take the stroker in an F150 any day…but I’m also biased towards Ford trucks. Kudos to the owner for building what for some would be their dream vehicle…and surely those concerned with fuel economy can’t be serious, it clearly wasn’t built with that in mind.
Now, now, perhaps it’s a typo, maybe the mileage and price are switched,,,I know, that was a low blow, especially a readers truck.
To seller: I know you love your truck, it clearly shows, but good luck trying to find someone with that same affection. Judging by what comes through here, I suppose your price is not that far out of line( like $50g one a while back) perhaps that’s what you are basing your price on, but, and I hate this saying, it is what it is, and the motor, while impressive, isn’t going to help the sale any. It’s still a sharp ’79 F-150. Motor turned me right off. I see plenty of these out here in Co. nice ones too, obviously THEIR babies, and they go for a lot less than this, sorry.
Ridiculous asking price? 🤣🤣🤣 A stroker big block can set you back that much alone! Are all of Barn Finds followers stuck in 1989?
What are you going to do with this, Robert? A pickup truck, no matter how nice looking, is meant to be used and not blasting down the 1/4 mile.( traction may be an issue here) The owner can do what they please, but most of us, so far, think this, motor would be better in a ’88 LX Mustang than this. Heck, I’d rather see the ubiquitous Cummins diesel here, than some pro stock motor. So what you’re saying , is you’re basically buying the motor, and he is throwing in the truck.
Looks like a decent pickup but really not sure why a person would this engine combo into something like this? With the components he put in the bottom end he has some money into the engine, why, so I can spin my tires further than you? With those torque numbers he would need a dialed 4-link with slicks on a drag strip to have any hope at all of making it stick. Great effort, execution looks good BUT FOR WHAT? I won’t say it will not sell, but it’s going take time and a reality check on the price!
Thanks for the comments folks. The engine that’s in there just because I could. Honestly I wasn’t sure where to price it. Way over that amount in it so my investment has no bearing on the asking price. As to the fuel economy it’s really not that bad for what it is. This pickup is not meant to be used like a normal truck. It’s for shows for the guy that really likes the 79 Ford.
By the way it’s an asking price, not a demand price. You gotta start somewhere.
About 10 years ago I bought a 1 owner 1979 Bronco XLT. The interior was very good and did not need redone. I had it painted the original Jade green metallic with metallic gold running boards and wagon wheel rims and RLW tires I had the engine rebuilt. I also had a smoke colored running board with gold lettering On the bug shield which said, PONY EXPRESS on the bug shield. lol It was one of the nicest Broncos in South east Pennsylvania. Point is. I had about $$5,000.00 in it including what I paid for it and sold it for $5,000.00 after 4 years. The point is a restorer is fortunate to even break even than making a profit unless the vehicle is a very rare automobile. Some profit but the majority lose money.
Believe me, i know im going to lose money. Im negotiable on the price but i dont want to give it away either. There are a lot of “nice” ones out there but most have had just a repaint, not a full resto. This truck is not everybody’s cup of tea but there is probably someone out there that will want it.
Not what you’d expect a sleeper to look like. I clicked on it expecting to find a bunk in the back.
