Reader Ad: 1983 TVR Tasmin

SOLD

If you are new to Barn Finds, you may not recognize this TVR, but if you have been around here for a while you hopefully remember it! Justin H bought this Tasmin from us back in 2016. You can read about our experience with it here. He’s done quite a bit of work since then, but the time has come for it to go to a new home. He’s asking $5,500 and is in Louisville, Kentucky. If you’d love to own a former Barn Finds car that is both unique and fun, be sure to have a look at Justin’s ad!

Asking Price: $5,500
Location: Louisville, Kentucky
Mileage: 29XXX TMU
Title Status: Clean

Seller’s Description: This is the Barn Finds TVR much improved. It’s a Monty Python Maserati! The Spinal Tap of sports cars! Also looks like the MK III from the Danger Mouse cartoon.

Body Condition: Fair to Good. Plenty of chips, some crazing here and there, a few cracks. Needs the section under the left taillamp repaired…I just haven’t gotten to it…see picture. It’s a TVR after all and the fit and finish never were the best. I broke the wood instrumental panel overlay while removing to clean gauges. I took it off and have no regrets. Looks like a serious sports car dash now, not a ‘93 Chevy Conversion van! Lower door panels need redoing. Pretty generic and straightforward project and materials. Targa panel has scratches on outside and a sagging headliner. This doesn’t really bother me because it’s rarely fitted when I drive! A split seam on the drivers lower cushion invisible until you apply pressure.

Mechanical Condition: Runs well and pulls pretty strong for a small V6. Recent valve adjustment and covers. Installed a shrouded puller fan but it still reads at 2/3 to 3/4 temp gauge. Apparently this is typical for a Wedge. I also added a remote oil filter and new proper grade oil cooler lines as well as replaced dry rotted tank to tank to swirl pot fuel lines. I replaced the trailing arm bushings, radius arm bushings, rear lateral arm bushings. Could use the upper differential bushings and a set of shocks.

Love the wedge. As a 1980’s teenager with Vector posters on the wall, I think this is cool.
