There’s no doubt in our minds that the original Taurus SHO will be a desirable collector’s item in the near future, well at least for well sorted low mileage examples. Robert H’s 1989 is the right year with the right gearbox (the 5-speed), but its mileage isn’t extremely low. It’s covered 103k miles but looks to be in nice condition overall. It’s going to need a little work but could be a daily driver with a timing belt and new tires. He’s asking $3,900, which could be a good deal even if you decide to just make it your daily driver!
Asking Price: $3,900
Location: Spokane, Washington
Mileage: 103,380
Title Status: Clean
Seller’s Description: This SHO is a one owner survivor with zero corrosion and has been upgraded with a Quaife limited slip differential.
Body Condition: Is in excellent condition and makes updates/repairs well worth doing.
Mechanical Condition: Is in very good condition overall. It does need the timing belt, tires (due to age) and the engine main seal as there’s a minor oil leak.
Best of luck to Robert! If you have a future classic that needs a good home, please consider listing it here on Barn Finds!

That’s low mileage for the year! Looks to be an excellent example. Good luck!
You gotta love the primer grey color for maximum sleeper potential.
Not primer grey. It’s is obviously metallic dirt! Even when driven on dusty roads it never looed dirty. It also never broke. The SHO has exhibited astonishing reliability for a first off automobile engine from a motorcycle producer. Ford also knew a thing or two about making pretty reliable cars. This is not a finicky exotic. Bonus is average 29 miles/gallon when driven modestly.
This is fast car! I drove one years ago; a Sleeper for sure.
Not cheap to repair.
Amazing how dated that body looks now when considering how radical the “jellybean” shape was back in the day.
love these cars they are identical to the ford sierra sapphre sold in the uk. I had a taurus a while ago and it was a tank but so fast and wonderful to drive.
220 hp, 30 yrs old, needs expensive repairs…
I had a 90 SHO and LOVED it. super quick (for the mid 90s) with great gas mileage. Repairs were reasonable with the exception of a clutch, about $800 20 years ago. The engine sounds alone are worth maintaining this car!
SHO, schmo, this was the car that caused me to lose interest in any new car that came out after this. BOOOOO, to the Taurus!!!
The Taurus SHO is one of my many bucket-list cars, although I prefer the styling refresh that followed this original design. Ford made a good move by partnering with Yamaha on the engine, in terms of what this engine was actually capable of.. they should have tuned it further, and dropped it into the Probe.
