Reader Ad: 1990 Volvo 740 V8 Wagon

SOLD

Update 9/13/2018 – We just heard from Michael and the Volvo has sold! Hopefully, the new owner will keep us updated on their V8 Volvo adventures.
It might look like a regular old Volvo wagon, but under the hood isn’t the typical inline 4 that you’d expect to find there. Instead, it’s powered by a Ford 5.0 V8! The swap was done about 10 years ago and looks nicely done. Outside of the Ford Cobra badging on the engine, you could almost believe this car left Sweden with this engine. Reader Michael S has decided to part ways with this cool grocery hauler, so if you’re interested it can be found in Louisville, Kentucky with an asking price of $4,500. You can contact him via the link below.

Asking Price: $4,500

We wish this one was closer to Idaho, as we would be on our way to buy it right now! There is just something incredibly cool about cramming an American V8 into one of these Volvo wagons. If you have a cool sleeper that needs a new home, please consider listing it here on Barn Finds!

How has this not been sold? If I didn’t have my own wagon to sell I would be on this. Wow. GLWS seller! Don’t lower your price it’s worth every penny and probably more.

The 220k miles may be holding peeps back… good deal anyway..

Obviously that is not the mileage on the drivetrain, so I don’t see why that would matter in the sale.

The phone number is bogus according to Verizon. .. And you’re right .. It would’ve been gone in a day or less…if it sounds too good to be true …

This was a paid ad so I doubt it’s fake.

You are correct ! My bad ..it is a real ad and I did hear from the seller who has reached an agreement with another party . Sadly..he saw my number in his non existent phone and called me back . Sorry to jump the gun but when the Verizon lady came on to tell me the number didn’t exist or whatever.. Well ..you know the rest .Barn finds is a Goid site and getting better all the time. THANKS

‘flyin brick’ usually goes sbc. Wish it wuz the coyote w/that T5…
IPD the ‘everything else’ & have a niceun.
Got my 300K mi Wolwo seats (frm the 850) into my ’66 Bronk now.
Most comfy I’ve ever had, any vehicle. 740’n 240 were some of the
most durable trouble free vehicles I ever had. The Coyote (w/suspension,
    other mods) would B incredible.

I had a Volvo 265 wagon that I installed a 5.0 and AOD from a Mustang in it. It was almost a bolt in operation. The original V6 sat so far forward that when the 5.0 was installed, the front end sat 2″ higher than stock. Until the IPD springs were installed on all 4 corners. My son came home from being born in the hospital in that car . (1992) Great car, lots of fun dusting embarrassed BMW drivers. I finally sold it when it was in need of it’s 3rd rear differential.

I saw an episode of Chasing Classic Cars on the Velosity channel that showed a nice Volvo wagon like this that was dark green with all Ford power and set up special for the owner. They said it was very fast. It belonged to the actor, race car driver Paul Newman. Wayne bought it with all the paperwork .
