Reader Marc S recently messaged us to see if we would be interested in seeing a 1996 Mustang GT with just 28k original miles. And obviously we responded with, “yes, please”. His late brother-in-law purchased this Mustang when it was new and took incredible care of it. Unfortunately, with his recent passing, Marc’s sister decided it needed a new home, but Marc wanted to see the car stay in the family, so he purchased it. For the past month or so, he’s been trying to piece together what upgrades his brother-in-law did to it, and while he has detailed records of service work, it seems a few things were kept off the books.
It’s hard to ever know what internal work has been done to an engine without receipts or taking it apart, but a few things are apparent. It received an aftermarket intake and upgraded exhaust system. Marc also suspects the heads were upgraded, but again, there’s no paperwork to know for sure. The engine bay sure looks clean!
1996 was a good year for the Mustang. It was the first year for the new 4.6-liter Modular V8 in the SN-95. As great as the pushrod 5.0 is, the Modular V8 produces similar power and revs higher while also being more efficient. Ford used the 4.6 Modular until the introduction of the 5.0 Coyote in 2010. Throughout the SN-95 and SN-99 production, the interior remained essentially the same.
Our condolences go out to Marc and his family. I, for one, am glad to see that this Mustang is going to stay in the family, at least for the time being. It’s a great way to honor his brother-in-law and all the hard work he clearly put into this Mustang. Let’s just hope Marc can figure out what all has been done to it and that he can keep it on the road where it belongs!
Really nice looking car. Love that choice of later Ford rims .. Looks great on this silver Mustang. If it’s a 5sp especially be a real sweet ride for somebody
It is a 5 speed
“1996 was a good year for the Mustang. It was the final year of the SN-95 body, but it received the new 4.6-liter Modular V8. ”
1996 wasn’t the final year of the SN-95 body, 1998 was.
2004 was the last year of the SN95 Mustang. The restyled “New Edge” mustangs from 1999 to 2004 are also SN95 platform.
True officially, though I’ve seen “SN-99” used as an unofficial term for the facelifted ’99-’04 New Edge Stangs.
94 thru 98 –Sn95 body style- The 94/95 were push rod 5.0’s and the 93 lincolns and up already had the single and DOHC 4.6 engines.
Didn’t see price anywhere?? Or maybe I missed it.! Almost like an advertisement but no punch line. ??
Ford had been using the 4.6 modular in SOHC and DOHC versions in the Lincolns from 93 up. The 99 to 04 versions of the stang were SN-97 platform not SN-95.
Not for sale as of now. It was just showcased here on Barn Finds.
What would be a fair price?
28k on the clock- and in this good of condition expect to pay between 11k to 13k as long as the underneath looks as good as the rest of the car since this is a saltbelt car.
Underneath is spotless. It has never been in bad weather
I knew the owner very well. Enjoy it as he did. I know you will
