If you aren’t familiar with the “Big 10” package on Chevy pickups, think of it as a heavy-half. It’s a 1/2-ton pickup that is set up for towing with a 12,000lb. gross combined weight rating. This particular 1978 Chevy C-10/Big 10 was special ordered by a gentleman who is now 92 years of age and looks like it has been pampered its whole life. It can be found for sale here on eBay with a current bid of $9,300 USD, but the reserve hasn’t been met yet. Located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, the truck hasn’t been driven in the snow and has been stored in a heated garage during the winter. Let’s take a look at this truck and thanks to Local_Sheriff for the tip on this nice find!
The truck features option LF8 which is a high-torque 454 cubic inch V8! While you’re not going to pass many gas stations, you will be able to pass people going uphill. The mileage according to the ad is just over 54,000 but it’s hard to tell from the photos if the gauges are in miles or kilometers. Either way, this is a nice truck.
There are some close-up photos of the interior and it looks in amazing condition. Even the gauges are in great shape. The carpet, door panels, and seat all look great as well. This truck has the feel of a true survivor and seems like it could almost be a show truck with a little detailing and minor freshening up.
Here you can see “BIG 10” called out on the quarter panel. I don’t know how many real Big-10s were made, but I bet it wasn’t a very big percentage of the overall production. Once again, this truck looks great and will probably be a great truck for the new owner. What do you think?
Looks like the gauges are metric. Zoom in real close on the Speedo, and you can see it’s Kph in white and mph in the inner blue circle
Uh yeah… its in Alberta… Canadian vehicle
These were such great trucks, unfortunately here in the rust belt of NY state they rusted out while you slept. In 73, first year of GM using recycled steel; not sure if they switched to a different steel later . So nice to see one of these so well preserved; would make a great truck and not cost 50 large!! Good luck to the new owner.
Cheers

I live in Calgary (where this truck is apparently from), and I still see ‘70s ford and gm pickups on a daily basis. If you don’t know our winter weather, it probably makes your worst day look good… -40 and 3 feet of snow ring a bell?
A beautiful Chevy pickup, the original condition is amazing. Not a daily driver with that gas guzzler under the hood but the perfect rig for towing a vacation camper or a classic car hauler. I believe EPA estimates for the 454 were 10 city/14 highway and probably worse if you’re towing a heavy load so with fuel consumption like that, I’ll leave this one for a one percenter.
Surprise it doesn’t have the full gauge package with the trailering option. I’m sure it’s a logistic nightmare trying to get the truck into the US.
I bought a 78 new in 3 years front fenders had rust holes all along wheel wells here in salty Illinois. Nice to see one preserved so well.
Man, does this thing ever make me misty for my dad’s brown and white ‘84 F-150 Explorer (dual tanks and battery, camper package, etc). He bought it brand new, and kept it until about 2014 (with extensive body work done the year before). That cushy tan velour and vinyl. The big 351W 2-V and granny gear 4-speed…I really miss it, and will never forgive him for selling the damned thing.
Beautiful truck, still new. I purchased a couple of vehicles from Canada, no big deal getting into New York. I just hired a transporting company out of Canada, they received the paper work and over it came. I think the first vehicle that came was about $1400.00, outside carrier. This vehicle is a beauty and must hand the 92 year old a lot of credit for keeping it the way it looks today. Great job.
I had the identical truck in two-tone Beige. Rust-free and beautiful when I bought it in AZ – a rust bucket 4 years later in MI. When I bought it from an older couple who used it to haul a travel trailer, I was impressed by the dual 22-gal gas tanks – then I found out why it needed two. No matter how fast or slow I drove, empty or very loaded, it got the exact same mileage – 10mpg. Drove like a dream – wish I still had it – without rust.
That has to be the cleanest 78 I have seen of these. Beautiful museum piece there…I hope it goes to a good home and saved…
I had one of these. I
