If you’ve been hunting for a genuine Pontiac GTO Judge to restore, this one might be worth a look. It’s a 1969 model with PHS documentation confirming its Judge status, and while it’s far from turnkey, the $20,000 asking price reflects the condition. There’s no original drivetrain, but it does come with a 400 from a 1971 GTO. Find it here on eBay out of California.
The seller doesn’t sugarcoat the project nature of this car—what you see is what you get. The car no longer retains its original drivetrain, and that’s an important factor for most collectors. In its place is a 400-cubic-inch V8 from a 1971 GTO, which is included but not installed. That means whoever takes this on will be starting from a near-roller, with mechanical systems to be sourced, checked, or replaced before the car will be running again. No mention is made of the transmission, so that may also be part of the parts pile—or missing entirely.
Visually, the car wears red paint and has a parchment interior, but both will need restoration. The body appears fairly complete, with some visible rust and wear typical of an unrestored project. The seller notes that the car comes with “a bunch of parts,” but it’s unclear what’s original, what’s replacement, and what condition everything is in. New quarter panels are present, and the car will definitely need metalwork before progressing toward paint.
Still, documented 1969 GTO Judges don’t surface every day—especially not for $20k. Fully restored Ram Air III cars have crossed auction blocks for six figures, so this one may appeal to someone looking to get in at a lower cost and take on the work themselves. Of course, a full restoration will likely cost more than the purchase price, so budget accordingly.
If you’re a Pontiac fan with a shop and some time—or just want a real Judge to build your way—this could be the kind of long-haul project worth considering. Just be sure to ask plenty of questions and get as many photos as you can before hitting that bid button.
Would you bring this Judge back to factory spec, or build it your own way from the ground up?
I’m sorry Judge or not it’s ridiculous to pay 20000 for a car that’s rusted this bad without a
Original engine to work with that probably needs a rebuild and it’s an automatic.
With a pile of parts that might not be usable.
Maybe half that price at best.
4-5k is a better starting point, lots of work needed.
Looks like it’s been exposed to the elements for quite some time with the surface rust on the IP & floorboards. Kind pricey or a car in that shape.
Another labor of love, cause this baby will cost a fortune to do correctly, and at 20k you’re under water to begin with. Jmho
It’s a pass for me, Automatic? no thank you, asking price for this is way out of market value,
The days of 4 or 5k dollar muscle cars are long gone, especially with the super rare muscle, when available. If you think 20k is too much, go and spend 6 figures on a restored one….then the answer will be too much money…lol…lol…because most cannot afford either or..stay negative..outside looking in…
Without its original drivetrain , its just another rusty pontiac .certainly not a $20,000 car .
I don’t see these rust buckets flying out of the garages I totally understand there not making them anymore but wait they are! Reproduction cars likecamaros mustangs etc are being reproduced and you can buy them in any stage of construction So if you can’t come up with the downstroke you can pay as you go 20000 goes along way towards a new replicar Rust free still gives you the satisfaction of building it your way Not areal matching numbers car I’ll blow the horn and wave as I drive past while your still under your rust bucket
Reply to not again
The key word Mike. Is reproduction..thats like going to the store and buying a knock off bucket of ice cream..it’s not the real deal, then you got to explain to the wife why you did not purchase the real deal..which your answer will be, it was cheaper… and she will walk away and tell you to eat it yourself! I hope you get the point.
Growing up in SE Michigan there wasn’t anything out there that didn’t pass thru our small town. People worked for all four manufacturers and someone was always driving something. The Judge was no exception. A great time and place to be alive.
For the guy with unlimited money and time. 71 engine. Forget it. 20K is very oprimistic.
