The MG Midget had an impressive run, debuting in 1963 and running until 1979. While most MG collectors hunt for early Midgets, the final examples are surprisingly good and vastly underappreciated. Sure, the rubber bumpers aren’t for everyone, but they are fun cars to drive and easy to maintain. This example is in great condition, inside and out, and is ready to drive. The seller has enjoyed it, but it’s time to let someone else enjoy it. So, they are offering it here as a Barn Finds Auction, and it’s located in Yakima, Washington.

Given their status as an affordable roadster, most of these cars were driven hard and abused. Finding one that is in well-sorted condition can be a challenge. This one appears to be in good condition, with shiny paint, a straight body, and a clean interior.

The interior is in nice condition, although we would like to see the upholstery under the seat covers. On the upside, the covers have likely protected the seats from sun damage and wear. The interior has been fully restored, including new upholstery and dash, so chances are the seats are still like new. The odometer is showing 63k miles, but the seller admits they don’t have records to verify it. Given how clean the car is overall, it could very well be accurate.

When the Midget debuted, it was powered by a 948cc inline-4, but by ’79 it was powered by the 1500cc that was shared with the Triumph Spitfire. Emission regulations and fuel efficiency concerns had taken their toll on performance, but the car was still super light. This one was rated at 50 horsepower when new, but it looks like it’s been equipped with a Weber downdraft carburetor, so it should make a little extra power. It’s also received electronic ignition, a new exhaust, and brakes. The engine is paired with a 4-speed manual, which the seller states as working well but they do note a slight whine in 1st gear.

This might be one of the cleanest rubber bumper Midgets we’ve seen in a long time. The seller has enjoyed it, using it regularly during the summer, but the time has come to let someone new enjoy it. So, if you’d love to enjoy the remainder of summer in a classic British Roadster, be sure to give this MG a closer look. And don’t forget to cast your high bid below!
