Reliable Fun: 1952 Dodge Meadowbrook

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

The Dodge Meadowbrook was introduced in 1949 to be the mid-range car in the Dodge line-up. By 1952 the entry-level Wayfarer was discontinued, making the Meadowbrook the cheapest car in the Dodge line. This 1952 Meadowbrook is listed for sale here on Craigslist. It is located in East Windsor, New Jersey, and is offered for sale with a clean title. The owner is asking $8,700 for this Dodge. A big thanks to Barn Finder Ikey H for spotting this one for us.

The owner states that the Dodge has covered only 58,000 miles, and is basically original. It has undergone a repaint at some point in its life, and it does present quite well. He does state that the car does look a bit worn, but that it is essentially a good, solid car. To me, this looks like one of those old cars that you can hop into a drive exactly as it stands right now, and that is precisely what the owner states that he does. He also states that he likes it because it is just a fun car.

As with the outside of this car, the interior is a bit worn, but it can definitely be used as it is. Some parts of the interior appear to have been reupholstered at some stage, as there are a few mismatched components, but as a car that you can drive and enjoy on a daily basis, it probably doesn’t matter that much. The dash looks good, and a full interior restoration would not be a difficult job, although I probably wouldn’t do it unless I was looking at doing a full vehicle restoration.

Under the hood is the original 230ci flat-head 6-cylinder engine, which is hooked to a manual transmission. There’s really not a huge amount to say about it really. This represented good, basic transport in its day, and the owner says that it starts every time without a problem. He also says that everything on the car works perfectly, including the heater.

This Dodge Meadowbrook really gets to the essence of what classic car ownership is all about, and that’s fun. As it stands right now, this car is not going to win a bunch of trophies at a car show, and people aren’t going to be blinded by lashings of chrome when you open the hood. It’s a car that you can own and enjoy, and that’s really what this car is all about.

Was this the same as the Plymouth Cranbrook?

At first glance they do look pretty similar. The Dodge had a 123.5 wheelbase where the Plymouth had 118.5. The latter also had the smaller 217 six.

“Hospital Green” is such a great color for old cars.

I had a 51 Meadowbrook in high school in the 70s. Paid $75 to a little old lady. It was a 3-speed manual but it had fluid drive.

I had a 1950 Desoto with fluid drive It was a 4 speed, 2 gears in low range and 2 in high. May dad paid $150.00 for it with 50,000 original miles and gave it to me for my 16th birthday in 1969. It was rust free almost show room condition. I loved it and wish I would of kept it. Fun car.
