Restromod Project: 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air

A sharp start to the ’55 Chevy of your dreams, this Bel Air project holds promise, and a great deal of parts in it’s interior. The seller has owned the car for a year, but it appears a fair amount of progress was made on the car, based on the screenshots of the body off of the frame. With time ticking down, this Chevy is currently bid up to $15,100. Take a look at this project here on eBay, out of Poughkeepsie, New York.

Under the hood is a fresh 350 Chevy backed up by a 700r4 Transmission. Although in place, the engine is not currently a runner. While the body was off, the frame was refreshed with new paint, a Nova rear end, disc brakes, exhaust, brake lines, shocks, and springs. A bit of a mouthful, but it appears the chassis is pretty solid. The brake master and booster are not installed, but otherwise, it looks like the chassis wouldn’t take much to get across the finish line.

A bit crowded, the interior is filled with spares, along with actual interior components. Many of the spares appear new, and the seller claims that the car is almost complete minus door panels. That is certainly enticing, plus there is a vintage air unit included in the sale. This looks like a great start to a comfortable driver with power steering, disc brakes, and air conditioning. The other great news is that this Chevy looks to have missed out on becoming a drag car, like what happened to so many of these cars.

There is old paint, or perhaps even primer on the exterior of this Chevrolet. The original color appears to have been a mellow blue, which is still evident in the door jambs, and on the dash. Despite the color change, there is still visible surface rust on the body, mostly along the roof, and the tops of the fenders, trunk, hood. Here is the good news, the body appears very solid and honest, with two evident concerns. The first is damage to the driver side rocker. It appears to have been dented upward in its past, and a light layer of body filler was applied to hide it. I am assuming there is some rot under the filler, but it appears the damage is more dent related. Secondly, there is a spot of either body filler or heavy paint on the passenger side rocker panel. The quarters look pretty good top and bottom which is pretty rare on its own. Although this Chevy still has a ways to go, this is a great starting place for that dream ’55 that so many of us lust after. What do you think the final bid price will be on this ’55 Chevy?

Considering the work yet to be done I’d say close to where it is now would be a good price. Body and paint work and new interior will turn this into a great car but it won’t be cheap. Nice car!

This is the perfect start for someone who wants a 55 post car, and wants to have it their way. It looks like a no brainer to me. My problem is I would love to finish it, I just forget how old I am, how much money I have and most of all how much time, I have to work on another project and on top of that I am not the fastest , I have to remember I am not a professional builder. I do hope somebody gets this that will enjoy finishing it.

Knock off $5000, from the current bid & it would be a good buy.
At least the wheels are nice.
