Right Number Of Doors: 1955 Studebaker Wagon

1955 Studebaker Conestoga

While 4 doors are great, there is just something cool about a 2 door wagon! Listed here on craigslist in St. Louis, Missouri is this 1955 Studebaker Conestoga with an asking price of $7,500 and just the right number of doors for an oddball wagon, two! This was a low production model and really is quite interesting. The Conestoga wagon could also be configured as an ambulance, the Ambulet.

It is reported that the ’55 Conestoga weighed in at almost 3,300 pounds with a base price of $2,556. The ’55 was powered by a 232 cu. in. V8 mated to a 3 speed manual. There were some options available, including an overdrive transmission, which is not mentioned in the ad so we don’t know if this rig has one or not.

This car appears to be a driver, with recent plates attached. The owner says there is a dent in the left door and you could restore it or drive it the way it is. We don’t know if the door is operational or if the damage is keeping it from closing correctly.

The 1963 Studebaker GT parked along side is also available, so maybe a package deal is in order?

We are told that this Conestoga is an all original and we believe it. From this photo we know the damaged door opens, but it doesn’t provide any other clues about its condition. We also want to point out the missing trim panel of the passenger’s side.

'55 Stude Wagon back seat

The backseat looks good and show minimal wear. What is under the tear on the floor mat, can you see daylight? This car appears to be in good order overall. There are no images of the underside or of the engine. This wagon looks like it could actually be a lot of fun and with the quirky Studebaker styling, would grab lots of attention!

Motor-on,
Robert

I really like this! It appears there’s not a whole lot needed to make it a regular driver. Don’t think I’d like the air-conditioned floor in back, and suspect there’s rust elsewhere. But after that was fixed. it looks ready for cruising. At $7500, I’d expect it to be mechanically solid.

Not sure, but I believe this car has overdrive. I think the T-handle on the lower left of the dash controls it. With the 232, it should be nice on the road.

But it’s the looks that make me want it.

There’s a nice one in the San Jose area. I know the owner! Stude was the largest builder of Conestoga Wagons in the late 1800’s that many pioneers travelled west in

Nothing in the ad tells us if the car is still for sale on 5/20/2023, the asking price, or how to contact the seller~?????????????????
