Rod Or Restore? Willys Aero

'53 Willeys

The owner is not sure of the year model of this Willys Aero model that he has for sale. Listed here on eBay and parked in Binghamton, New York with a BIN of $3K is what the seller guesses is a 1953 Aero. There is a small boat load of hubcaps and at least one soapbox racer in the background you might be able to work a deal on also.

Richie, the owner, says that the “complete” car was parked in a barn 30 plus years ago.

The interior image is very out of focus, but from what can be seen, it looks complete and in decent shape.

This car will likely need a total restoration or you could make a hot rod out of it, it will be up to the next owner to decide what to do with it. If you have any questions, a phone number is provided in the ad. There isn’t any mention of any rust, or an image of the underside, trunk interior or under the hood so be sure to ask the seller lot’s of questions. Besides the hubcaps, there are other vehicles under the same roof.  We wish you good hunting if you make the trip or contact the owner.

Motor-on,

Robert

I’m guessing the seller/flipper doesn’t have the car’s title, which would give its model year. He’s so sure this Valuable Classic will bring in big money that he’s asking $3K without bothering to open the hood and snap a photo (is it a “four” or a “six”?), get decent interior shots, or hose off the dust, leaves and cobwebs.

I wouldn’t mind having one of these and, much as I can see it hot-rodded, I’d most likely try to keep it original. Trying to remember a long-ago ride in one, which seemed reasonably smooth and quick enough for regular use.

Wouldn’t go near this one, though. Too many unanswered questions, too expensive and far away to ask.

Restore, no question. Yet another fantastic winter project for someone; I wish it was my project.

I can only pray someone doesn’t rod this car. It appears to be a 1952 Willys “AeroWing”. ( script on trunk) Wiki claims, the “Wing” was dropped for ’53, although, I’ve seen pictures of alleged ’53 Wings. This car is so rare, it’s not even funny. And mostly complete. Quite a find, here.

Pre 1973, no title. You sign the back of the registration. If he has the registration, and it’s signed by the owner listed on it, you’re fine.

Restomod. Use new Jeep/Chrysler parts to bring the mechanicals up-to-date.

There are cars that come up for sale where it just makes sense to either preserve or restore, this is one of those cars it’s all there it looks solid and it’s rare. Personally I hope it get a nice driver level restoration than enjoyed. I do wounder though just how hard these are to find parts for, is anyone out there that has a little knowledge on the Willys car that can give more insight on that.
