Second Flight Award Winner: 1965 Chevy Corvette

This 1965 Chevrolet Corvette convertible is described as a highly original project car that took home a “Second Flight” award from the National Corvette Restorers Society in 2018. The car sports nicely aged Nassau Blue paint with a matching hard top and blue interior, and is equipped with a matching 327 paired to a four-speed manual transmission. You’ll find the Corvette here on eBay with a $47,900 asking price and the option to submit a best offer.

Thanks to Barn Finds reader Patrick S. for the find. The Corvette sports its full assortment of dings, scratches, and wear and tear, but that’s what makes it so great. So many Corvettes of this era have been over-restored, stripped of any sign that they were once just a tired used car. Not this Corvette – and it’s equipped with the preferred manual transmission as an added bonus.

The seller notes the Corvette comes with the matching 300 b.h.p. L75 paired to a Muncie four-speed manual transmission. A Positraction rear end helps get the power down, and the seller included a video with a demonstration drive. The sharp engine paint is a surprise bonus, and eve the air cleaner looks fairly mint. The odometer shows just over 32,000 miles.

The old-school-cool Firestone gold-line tires look perfect here, and are mounted to factory wheels with faux knock-off wheel covers. The multiple underside shots reveal a chassis that is just gorgeous with no signs of rot or poorly repaired accident damage. Corvettes like these with matching hardtops don’t come along often, hence why this one is already winning awards.

This seems way over priced to me needing restoration. Even as a driver seems high. No PS or PB. My ‘66 Stingray with perfect paint, new interior and knock offs might get this money. I don’t normally gripe on prices but will watch this to see if it sells as I may be seriously under valuing mine.

You are RIGHT ON. That car would be lucky to crack $40k.

True but if you can verify the mileage then its a bargain.

It’s a nice car but if you double the asking cost of the car you will get the cost of restoration. If you add that restoration cost to the asking price of this car you are upside down before you get it home.

If this is an NCRS Second Flight car it would have been awarded at a “Chapter” meet which is the lowest bar to cross in the NCRS world. A lot of things are overlooked to encourage owners to learn about their car and what it would take to have the car judged at more rigorous meets such as “Regionals” or “Nationals”

I had the same thoughts and agree completely with your assessment. I tend to find Regional and National scores very similar for the same car if done close together.

Must have been a bad batch of rear bumpers – rusted, yet the front ones look good.
Why would any GM car back then w/o a/c have a declutching fan?

So out of reach for a car guy that drives his cars!! What I mean is a guy that doesn’t have a huge storage building and parks his investments for the value to go up!! This car needs restoration but I would drive it and send the chrome out in the winter months to get replated while I wasn’t driving it!! For the most part I would do that with the interior as well!! However starting at $40K and putting money into it slowly would still make you upside down!! Still a nice car overall!!!
