Sequential Shelbys: #130 and #131 Dodge Omni GLHS

Owning assembly line siblings – effectively, two cars built one after the other – is one of the more unusual automotive hat tricks that few enthusiasts pull off. We’ve seen it in the not-too-distant path with a pair of Buick Grand Nationals, and this time it’s a pair of Dodge Omni GLHSs, bought by the same owner at the same time from a Virginia Dodge dealer. Now, after years of sitting idle, he’s listed them here on eBay with bidding opening at $3,000 and no reserve.

While the idea of the original owner keeping these GLHS siblings together is easy to romanticize, it’s clear they’ve been neglected for some time. This is not necessarily out of a desire to see them rot, as the seller notes a few mechanical issues cropped up that kept them sidelined. One car developed a noisy belt tensioner and the other was parked due to a notchy shifter that made it difficult to change gears.

These are relatively simple fixes, in my opinion – a new tensioner and some shifter bushings, perhaps – so it seems like a fairly minor issue to leave you to park two incredibly fun cars to drive for the last 20 years. The interior of one of the two Omnis is clearly tired and in need of restoration, and while they both appear to have crack-free dashes, it looks as if there’s a heavy amount of delamination occurring.

Car number 130 has a few areas of rust concern, including the passenger side drip rail and the bottoms of the doors. Car number 131 is more solid but also has rust at the bottom of the doors. Both cars sport heavily weathered paint, and one of the two can’t even be moved outside due to the brakes seizing up. While there’s little doubt major work is needed, I can’t imagine the opportunity to buy sequential Omni GLHSs is going to happen again any time soon.

FYI Dan, any money charged for Carroll Shelbys signature was donated to a children’s foundation. Do you think Shelby needed $200.00 that badly that he’d pocket it ?

Ran hard and put away wet. Sidelined by “mechanical issues” brought on by being run hard.

You literally would have to scrape one of them up with a shovel and put it on a car carrier, LOL!
