Sitting in the Woods: 1969 Ford Bronco

Do you ever wonder how many old cars and trucks have been languishing on someone’s property, cast aside like any other piece of trash, when one day the owners realize it could be worth selling? That’s the feeling I get when looking at this ad for a very tired 1969 Ford Bronco offered for sale in West Virginia and listed here on Facebook Marketplace for $4,000. Tell me this wasn’t someone’s old, abandoned hunting truck before the dollar signs began flashing.

I’m sure there are deer leases all over the rural United States with old trucks sitting on them that the owners hope will fire up each year when hunting season opens, but that also could care less if the disposable rig fires up after a few months of dormancy. After all, the truck probably ended up there because it was an otherwise throwaway vehicle that miraculously kept running. The seller of this Bronco doesn’t give us much backstory, but given they live in Maryland and the truck is in West Virginia, I have to believe it’s been parked on a second property for years – and raided for parts in that time.

The engine is still present, and it oddly has pink-painted valve covers. The green paint job may be original given it extends down the firewall and into the engine compartment, and it has to be a somewhat rare color if it is a factory color scheme. The fact that body panels are missing but the engine remains more or less intact makes this Bronco a bit of a puzzle, as it would seem far more likely to have lost its drivetrain years ago if it was still a runner when parked.

The seller indicates they will be hosting “showings” for the Bronco this weekend, which seems to point to a high degree of confidence that someone is going to want a project like this. The rust issues are likely significant based on what we can see in the photos, and all glass also appears to be missing. This is a big project for whomever drags it off what looks like a beautiful piece of property; are Broncos still hot enough that this one is worth saving?

4000 seems cheap for an early Bronco, even in this condition. These things are really hot right now. Speaking of idiots, I saw my first Tesla Cybertruck on the road a few days ago. It looks like a stainless steel coffin on wheels, and for only $80,000!!

Since it’s obvious people here don’t like my “it’s pas shootin’ truck”, or spoiled brat comments, so a new approach,,This is a fantastic find on a well preserved vehicle that,um, changed the,,um,,oh ding dong diddly crap, I can’t do it. A little either way, it would have a tree growing through it. This only shows how hype can really influence peoples minds. I think it’s how dictators gain power. It is rather entertaining to see how far this will go. This clearly seems to be the limit.

I get “ran when parked,” meaning it’s all there.

I get “easy restoration,” the statement makes sense, even if really it’s not.

But, “I know what I have,” it just doesn’t make sense. Keep turning it over in my mind, doesn’t make sense from any angle. If you didn’t know what you had, it would be impossible to say anything. People would say, “what do you have,” and you’d say, “I don’t know.” Then the buyer would move on to someone who did know what they have. Hmm, ok, the meaning is actually clear now.

Garbage, buy a rusted moving unit with a title for a bit more and leave this thing right where it is. Anything good was removed decades ago. Love the weathered rusted dash. This thing leave no rust stone unturned. These were kind of crap eons ago and I am kind of a Ford person since I have quite a few. I would take jeep over this and buy a 78 and up Bronco. thats me..

Could be a good platform for a major 4×4 project but at $4k, it can sit there till it rots.

We all make jokes….but someone will buy this POS! The current bronco market is ridiculous. The New Gen broncos are junk, yet people are okay with shelling out Big $ for them, just to bragg they have a “bronco”. Leave it where it sits…. makes for an interesting conversation piece.

Whole business model (if goin that way) is in initial purchase price. Vehicles should be for current aged income cohort 40s+. So now I’m slowin down on fox-bodied from past decade of rehab/rest0mod. Lookin at ’90s/Y2K era model(s) to specialize in & wanna stay usa – town car, F-150 SVT, cheb 454 SS p/u, elderado/fleetwood, TJ (esp. LJ model as longer WB) …

Says it’s a ’69 but the tub on it is a ’73 or later. Curious what the VIN on the frame is.
