Snow Bound: 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28

While this Camaro Z/28 has a few rust issues, none of them seem to be too bad, and some of them have already been addressed. The rust that is left is all pretty minor, and once restored, this has the potential to be an extremely nice car. Located in Brantford, Ontario, Canada, you will find it listed for sale here on eBay.

Apart from missing the windshield, the Camaro is close to complete. There are a few small trim pieces that will need to be replaced, but these are readily available. One thing that I’m not sure about is the deck lid. It isn’t attached to the car, but I think that it’s sitting on the top of the blue car next to it. Given how damp and snowy everything else is, the fact that the trunk is so dry indicates that something was covering it. The front floor on the driver’s side has already been replaced, but apart from the center of the trunk floor, the rest of the floors and frame rails are said to be intact and in good condition. Some of the lower sections of the body have rust that will need to be fixed, as well as some rust to attend to around the rear wheel arches. The only thing that worries me is the fact that the vehicle appears to have been left out in the snow in its current state. The lack of windshield would allow snow into the car, which won’t be doing it any favors.

Sadly, this isn’t a numbers-matching car. The engine is a factory replacement 302ci V8 which the owner describes as a good running unit, while the Muncie M21 transmission isn’t original, but is date correct. However, the original 12-bolt rear end is present. That’s really about all that we know, as the owner doesn’t indicate whether the engine turns freely. It does look like the car has recently received a new power brake booster.

The interior is a pretty sad sight. The best-looking part of it is the dash pad, but the photos indicate that another good pad is also included with the car. The floor console is also present but isn’t installed, while there a few smaller parts that are also included. Once again, the presence of snow in the vehicle is not a good sign, as the moisture can do some nasty things to items like switches, gauges, and relays.

As a basis for a project car, the Camaro doesn’t appear to be a bad one. It definitely needs to be gotten out of the snow and into a dry environment sooner rather than later. It’s not clear how long the car has been sitting outside, but every day that it spends there is just doing more damage. The owner has set a BIN price of $24,900 for the Camaro, but the option is there to make an offer. Would you pay that sort of money to bring the Z/28 out of the cold?

Love to have a Z but I think this one is priced a little to high considering all the rust and replacement motor and trans, factory orange would be a bonus. But was it originally orange?

First impression means a lot! If I were selling a car for that much money it wouldn’t be parked outside in the snow soaking wet! I’d pass right by this heap!

This Camaro needs quite a bit of rust repair and then pretty much a total restoration. While the four-speed is a plus, that and the engine are not original to the car. $24k seems like a lot of money for what’s offered here, plus what you have to spend to get this car right. Maybe it’s worth it, just not to me.

This is a wreck for that price! I would rather take the Chevy truck for the money!

IMO it’s worth about half what they are asking for it, and that is a stretch. Looks like a hodgepodge of parts thrown together; forest green car with non original front clip, engine and trans. It was most likely wrecked back in the day and parted out, and someone came along and threw stuff on it to make it resemble a car. I would need more documentation regarding the car being a true X33 (is tag present and riveted, not screwed on, with no evidence of tampering) and the engine being a “DZ” 302 before even discussing the purchase, regardless of asking price.

No chance at paying the BIN price! Would really love a ‘69, but not this one.

No way, not anywhere near that price.

‘Replacement’ engine? Chances are, it’s not even a 302, and that is the heart of a Z28. If it isn’t a 302, then it’s just another cobbled together, rusty as hell ’69 Camaro. Worth about $6000, if he’s lucky. I’ve seen a few REAL documented, running, driving ’69 Zs on the market in the last few months, for only $7-8k more than he’s asking. Hell, I can buy a NEW repro body for $14k, buy all the rest of the stuff and have a BRAND new one, for the $25k plus the other $20k it would take to do this one right!
