Although this 1969 Pontiac GTO looks a little rough on the outside, it supposedly runs well and could probably be a drive-it-as-you-fix-it project. Found for sale here on eBay with a current bid over $7,000, there are a lot of possibilities with this car. The seller purchased it from Georgia and it’s currently located in West Monroe, New York. It already features an Endura front nose with hideaway headlights and lower front marker lights. These cars have great styling and look well in pretty much any color. What direction would you take it? How about a Judge clone? Yes, please.
As you can see from the air cleaner, this car has a 400 cubic inch V8 with a 4bbl carburetor. The odometer reads 42K miles, but the seller doesn’t say if they believe those are original miles or not. The engine supposedly starts easily, sounds good, and runs strong. The transmission is an automatic although there are 4-speed parts in the trunk that are included in the sale. The fuel lines and tank were flushed along with a new fuel sending unit installed.
There are only a few close-up photos of the interior. The ad says the floors are good except for one small spot and it “needs carpet and interior.” The Hurst dual-gate shifter is supposedly new, which is a bonus in an otherwise dingy avacado interior.
I’ve always loved slotted mag wheels. I’m not sure what happened to the passenger side rear wheel, but it’s not a slotted mag. Overall, this car doesn’t look too bad. Of course, there is a lot of work to do, but I’ve seen people start a restoration with a lot less. What do you think?
If it’s not super rusty and doesn’t have old crash damage, a great project. Driveable AC and hideaway car with 4-speed parts included? What’s not to like? The dual gate shifter wasn’t original for ‘69 AFAIK. I thought ‘68 was the last year. The console is the same though.
Correct. 1967 and 1968 only for the His & Hers(Hurst Dual Gate) shifter.
Please no more Judge clones.
Also, the air cleaner is incorrect and the only GTOs that ever got air cleaner stickers were the ’71-’72 455 HO.
BTW this car is Limelight Green with Green interior.
Built the 2nd week of July, 1969 in Pontiac, MI.
Hopefully someone will buy this car and restore it back to it’s former glory.
Years ago, I raced a buddy who had a ’69 GTO with a 421 under the hood. I had my L78 ’70 Nova SS and it was a close run as he got me by about a fender at the end of the 1/4. Probably would have had him if I had a better set of gears in the rear end instead of 3.08s. We ran on a two lane blacktop in Northern Maine and had spotters at the end of the 1/4 to let us know when it was clear to run. Half way through the run, we were side by side and really moving when a local pulled out of his driveway headed towards us. When he saw us closing in on him, he took the ditch in his pickup. After the run, he pulled up to us and I still remember what he said; “You friggin’ guys and your hotrods…………… who won?” Those were the days.
I did the Exact same thing in El Toro, circa 1975-76, man Goodyear polyglass tires were the best back then. Thanks for reminding me about gear ratios, 308’s in my 70 Rallye Nova stick shift 350. Ken’s 69 Goat had ? But we were pretty much even.
Regards BB
No Judge clone needed here, heck I always thought the GTO stood on its own without the laugh in slogan. Great car.
That odd rear wheel needs to disappear but other than that looks ready to rock.
Sold for $7700.
I’ll take a metallic green 68 Pontiac Firebird with the hood tach instead, now dont get me wrong,
GTO’s are nice and congratulations to the new owner, Enjoy
Sold at $7700 isn’t to bad!!
Could of had a 67 goat for 1600.00 dollars in 1972….400, 3 speed, it did almost 60 in first gear ! no idea what the gear ratio was back then. Enjoy your new purchase.
