Although there’s little that would stop me from considering this one if I were in the market for a sixties B-Body to restore, after looking over the seller’s description this 1968 Dodge Charger R/T does seem to present a few mysterious vibes. However, I have to agree with his assessment that this would make an awesome builder, so if you’re looking for a Mopar project to help pass those long winter days, this partially disassembled Charger can be found here on eBay. It’s located in Denton, Texas, with the high bid currently resting at $15,378.
One of my old pet peeves is I used to prefer dismantling autos myself for restoring, but that opportunity has passed, although the parts are laid out in an orderly enough fashion that it’s fairly easy to tell what’s what. A couple of things to address here are the numbers, or in this case, a lack of them, as the seller indicates he cannot find any whatsoever anywhere on this car. No fender tag is present either, with an old insurance card from the seventies found inside seeming to be the only source for a VIN. There’s also no title, but the buyer will receive a bill of sale.
If the number on that card is accurate, this Charger has a good pedigree. The XS shows an R/T model, with the L indicating this one was equipped with a 440, good for 375 HP back in 1968. The seller states that the sale includes a 4-speed manual transmission that matches the numbers on the insurance card, which can be seen in one of the photos, and also a 440 engine showing the same numbers. Unless I missed a picture somewhere, the block isn’t shown, so I might ask the seller about this first before deciding how high of an offer I want to submit.
While this is obviously a work-in-progress, the seller seems like he’s spot on in describing the Charger as very solid and having good bones to work with. The front fenders are already in primer, and other panels such as the quarters are going to require some straightening along with a general smoothing-out for the rest of the body. However, looking beneath the surface, I’d be pleased to acquire a ‘68 that’s at this good of a starting point.
The solid nature extends to the underside as well, with the platform and even rockers looking considerably better than many B-Bodies that show up in the marketplace billed as projects. With the lack of specifics we get about this one plus only a decades-old insurance card to go on, I still feel positive about this 1968 Dodge Charger R/T and where it stands at the moment. How about you?
Crazy money for a jigsaw puzzle!
No VIN anywhere? Danger, Will Robinson.
What could go wrong. The car has been taken apart, if the concealed VIN’s, which are used by agencies such as the CHP to verify a car being brought into the state isn’t there that should raise a huge red flag. One would assume it they were he would have already registered the car, it would have been money in his pocket. As for now, you are buying a collection of parts,

LMWAO!!!
Go right ahead with no VIN! LOL
Not sure how someone can register this without a VIN anywhere on the car?
No VIN no title no fender tag?? Only a insurance card that matches the engine and trans??? Be very careful this could a nightmare for registration!!!
Go full electric in this, then drag for pinks.
There are vin numbers on front of engine compartment on top radiator support railing and under weather strip on rear drivers side trunk rail. Shouldn’t be too hard to find or register. As long as it’s not been reported stolen. Owned 6 of these back in the early 80’s. First car.
Yeah, looks like a solid foundation and starting point, just one major issue…no VIN. At this point, I’d consider it a parts car and proceed accordingly when it comes to market value.
Let meeeeeeeeeee take it apart!
Somebody already did that….
A rust bucket and a pile of nondescript parts. At that price. All I can do is shake my head.
All those loose parts, but where is the engine it claims to come with?
Did I miss something?
PRA4SNW… Don’t sweat the small stuff lol
It never ceases to amaze me … rip a car apart, don’t bag or tag anything and then expect a flock of eager buyers to worship the pile that was once an assembled vehicle. I bought a car in buckets and it takes so much more time and patience, just because someone couldn’t resist the urge ; ) There is something to be said for being the one that takes a car down to its components, without an onlooker holding the wrench guy’s beer. I hope it goes to a better home, with someone with skills and vision. This poor car deserves it .
I agree with the above comments including Lost in Space robot screaming “Warning Will Robinson”
My one big concern is this …,
What if this vin has been recycled and is hanging on another car already?
Not interested, but if i was then it might behoove to search online for a past sale on the evil twin…. A slim chance…
Sadly, it’s too old for a car-fax search 🔍
Remember the old line…
“If it seems too good to be true then it probably is …. “
I see so many people have big ideas take a car or truck apart to restore ,then loose interest seeing all they have to do. Then try to sell it in pieces
”BEWARE: Seller posted car for sale with NO RESERVE,I won the auction as a result the Seller did not want to sell the car at the Winning bid price via Ebay. Seller then contacted me asking for more money I agreed to a higher price then he agreed to keep the price as it sold for on Ebay. Under a gentleman’s’ agreement I offer earnest money and the shipping location of the car, with no reply. Seller only wanting a positive review to continue sales on Ebay. Seems ethical but is not don’ be fooled.” 50% positive/NEGATIVE Rating…
Drifter, let’s us know if you get delivery of the Charger.
Don’t send money outside of eBay, if you do there is no protection, or way to get your money back with their assistance. When a seller does that it’s a scam.

She’s a beauty! Who needs a Title? Run it hard the Way it was meant to be!
If there is no Vin number on the radiator saddle or the trunk rail . That leaves the question as to where’d they go? Glwts cause buyer’s gonna need it.
I live in Pennsylvania. Good luck getting this pile of broken parts registered here. I went through a nightmare bringing my 73 Corvette with a clean NJ title to PA. Had to get a state inspector to verify the VIN. Just another tapped out 68 Charger with likely many parts missing.
SOLD for 16,100.
Surprised!
