From 1959 to the mid-1970s, the Ford Galaxie and Chevrolet Impala competed head-to-head in the full-size arena. And Chevy was the usual (if not every time) victor, though that doesn’t mean that being #2 doesn’t indicate that Ford didn’t try harder (wasn’t that something of a rental car commercial back in the day?). The seller has a ’67 Galaxie 500 convertible that runs well but needs some cosmetic work. Located with a dealer in Marysville, Washington, this drop-top is available here on eBay for $18,500.

The big Fords were redesigned in 1965, so the 1967 editions received a facelift, keeping with stacked headlights for the third (and last) year in a row. The convertible was/is a lesser-seen body style with about 24,600 builds in 1967. The Galaxie 500 accounted for a little more than three-quarters of them, with the remainder being the 500XL (akin to Chevy’s Impala Super Sport).

This Ford packs a 390 cubic inch V8, but it’s likely a 2-barrel edition, as the seller has parts that would help accommodate a conversion to a 4-barrel. The vehicle’s odometer is said to register just shy of 70,000 miles, and we’re inclined to think that’s accurate. No manual transmission here, as an automatic is there (column-shifted) to take care of gear shifting. We’re told the ragtop runs, drives, and stops well, so perhaps no mechanical attention is needed.

While the interior looks pretty good overall, we’re told the sheet metal has problems. But the undercarriage looks tidy. The photos don’t show where or how bad the exterior rust is. The canvas top goes up and down just fine (power-assisted), and the car has a built-in radio/8-track player that was redone, but the car’s speaker (s) need replacing. If you don’t want to take care of the car’s ills yourself, the seller (a dealer) can take care of it at their hourly shop rate.
