Though most folks regard the first-generation S30 Datsun Z as the most iconic model of the sports car, the second-generation S130 is gaining traction among collectors and enthusiasts. This clean 1980 Datsun 280ZX 10th Anniversary Edition is available here on eBay, and its unique color scheme makes this an interesting iteration of the 2nd-gen Z car.
This 280ZX is available in New Orleans, Lousiana with a clean title. The advertisement does not contain information on the vehicle’s history, but the seller mentions it is a running and driving specimen that was mostly driven on weekends and holidays.
Datsun produced only 3,000 of these special edition Z cars, and 2,500 of them featured two-tone black and gold exterior paint, which I’m quite fond of. This particular example has a numbered dashboard plaque noting that it is #608 of the 3,000 produced. Additionally, each of them included either Gold or Black 14-inch alloy wheels, commemorative exterior details, a tinted T-Bar roof, tinted windshield, and headlight washers.
Inside the cabin, you’ll find an extremely clean interior with a similar color scheme to the exterior. These 10th Anniversary Edition models all utilized leather seats, and the ones in this example look great. The power steering, brakes, windows and locks all function well, and an aftermarket AM/FM radio is the only noticeable change inside the vehicle.
There’s a fuel-injected L28 2.8-liter inline 6-cylinder engine under the hood, which pairs to an automatic transmission to drive the rear wheels. The drivetrain has 88,425 miles on it, and it benefits from recent maintenance including new fuel injectors, fuel harness cables, new battery, and more.
At the time of publication, bidding for this 280ZX is at $7,049. Would you purchase this special edition Z, or would you rather go for another version of this classic sports car?
I’m not an expert Z car guy, but 7K with 23 hours to go seems like a pretty good deal for this car. I have driven a few of these in the past and they are a blast to drive. Kudos to the seller for the nighttime action shots!
It looks like it has been lowered. Whoever did so made a good decision.
Too bad it doesn’t have a manual transmission.

I like this car. I wondrr where in New Orleans it was during the flood.
My brother and sister-in-law bought one of these brand new. It was their daily-driver for several years in all weather.
One sunny spring day, my brother-in law decided to put a coat of fresh paint his garage.
The Datsun was safely parked in the driveway. My sister-in-law decided to thoroughly clean and detail the Datsun. She had waxed the paint, and was about half-way through the interior. It was time for a lunch-break, and she left the doors open to air-out the interior.
About an hour later, they heard their hyperactive terrier, Basil, barking wildly, and running around the front yard. That was strange because he had been left in the fenced back-yard.
The couple went out to investigate……Basil was covered in thick, white oil-paint. White paint doggy (and squirrel) footprints explained what had occurred.
Basil had apparently been chasing a squirrel into the front yard. At some point, Basil slid on the plastic tarp, and knocked a gallon of paint flying. He ran through the paint a few times. The squirrel had apparently escaped somewhere around the open Datsun, and the frenzied terrier thoroughly searched almost every inch of the interior. Turpentine and doggy shampoo cleaned Basil, but the Datsun needed professional help. Turned out to be a fairly expensive insurance claim. By the time they sold the car, salty winter roads had ruined the outside, but the interior was like new.
Great story!
Sounds like the basis of a Farmers Insurance commercial.
had a new 79. its about as good a car as i have ever owned. it was a cruiser, on the freeway when you hit it, it seemed like it dropped a couple of inches and took off.
Sold for $9249.
I was about to say that – LOL!
Not a big ZX fan (honestly, the “X” is my biggest gripe about the car), but this one with the automatic would bring my wife joy, and me nothing but frustration. Looks like someone got a good deal, though.
I feel the same way – great deal on a nice car in great condition, but the auto would not be my first choice.
Correct me if I’m wrong but this car came with a turbocharger on it
