Springtime Edition Survivor: 1990 Cadillac DeVille

Believe it or not, this “Spring Edition” Cadillac DeVille actually came out in springtime, with a raft of cosmetic upgrades that were likely designed to appeal to one particular demographic. The DeVille shown here isn’t exactly a loved model these days, but survivors are always in demand no matter the make or model. This DeVille has survived to a high standard, with its gorgeous “Cotillion White” exterior still showing very well, along with a matching white top and leather interior. This is not the car to buy if you have kids or a dog. Otherwise, check it out here on craigslist where the seller claims it has just 26,000 original miles and an asking price of $14,500.

Despite being considered a downsized model, the DeVille was still plenty big, as this angle reminds us. Acres of trunk space and room for multiple sets of golf clubs made the DeVille a popular choice with the country club set, along with people of a certain occupation who had the need to transport their friends in the cargo compartment. The DeVille Springtime Edition wasn’t exactly a big hit from what I can tell as it’s not as if you see bidders clamoring over one at the latest Russo and Steele auction. Still, among Cadillac collectors, finding a genuine Springtime edition with its paint in perfect condition and under 30,000 miles may actually be a cause for celebration.

The price certainly pegs it as an example only a collector would seriously pursue, as any casual Cadillac collector knows they can find a DeVille from this era for short money, any day of the week. But when you see how clean that leather interior is, it tells you immediately that this DeVille has led a charmed life compared to most Cadillacs from this generation. These quickly become disposable luxury cars, and while they’re not expensive to maintain, their values plummeted to such a level that the second or third caretakers really did very little to look after them. The previous owner of this car had pride in ownership, as the white leather seating surfaces go to show you.

The underside continues the theme of extreme cleanliness that this Springtime Edition DeVille possesses in spades. The seller doesn’t go into details about the car’s history, but it seems like the kind of vehicle your grandfather would drive increasingly sparingly as he got up in the years. The low mileage is a hallmark of senior ownership, and given this Cadillac comes from the era when dealerships didn’t see anyone under the age of 75 in the showroom, it’s almost a guarantee that this DeVille has been parked in a retirement community for decades. While the price is high, this may indeed be one of the best Springtime Editions left. Would you pay the asking price?

I had the identical twin of this car years ago. I sold it to a former friend. I don’t miss either of them.

A crying shame to even call this a Cadillac IMHO..

All it needs is “wide whitewalls” to be a perfect pimpmobile for pimps who have no pride. It already has the ubiquitous crappy vinyl-over-fiberglass aftermarket “cabrio” top…

I recently acquired a 1991 Sedan Deville. No not preferred years but still a beautiful car. The 4.9l still runs pretty good.
