Still Smells Like The Barn! 1960 Corvette

1960 Corvette

The seller of this barn find Corvette is quick to point out in the ad that it’s “fresh from the barn…still smells like cat and rat!” The car is located in Virginia Beach, Virginia and is for sale here on eBay. Almost 50 bids have driven the price up to over $16,000, but the reserve has not yet been met. Thanks to Jim S for this great find! I admit to being a little puzzled first at how expensive this car is. Yes, it’s a Corvette, but it’s in pretty deplorable condition. The car has not run in years, has a non-original engine, and even has some frame issues. Yet due to the car being originally a rare “CU” twin four-barrel carburetor, 270 hp V8 car, despite the car not coming with that engine, it’s driven bidding quite high for a car in this condition. On the bright side, I’m pretty sure that means whomever wins the bidding will restore the car. Only 2,364 1960 Corvettes were made with this engine package, according to this site. While a lot of work will be necessary, there are plenty of parts specialists out there to help. Would the resurrection of this car interest you?

I’d personally rather take the beater ‘vette you posted yesterday and make it my own. Much cheaper and you can do what you want with it.

I can assure you it was not done by the factory. Normally there are rectangular cut outs for the bumperbrackets..

Never be worth what restoration would cost without the original engine.

This Corvette will be restored and will have the “original” CU engine installed. Only 2,364 were built with the CU engine and all 5,000 of them are still on the road.

Big Don, you are absolutely correct. As far as I’m concerned and I am a builder of fords and GM vehicles, this vehicle will not be worth the money to rebuild and expect to get your investment back. If you are going to rebuild to keep for your self, still very expensive but a different story. That;s just my opinion.
