Since the third generation of the Chevy Corvette debuted in 1968 based on the Mako Shark concept car, the 1969 editions were little changed. Four versions of the 427 cubic inch “big block” V8 were available in the Corvette, and the seller’s car has one of them. This auto has been in the lock-up for years, first in a garage and now in a storage unit. We’re not sure if it runs, but it will at least need some TLC. Due to production issues at GM, the 1969 model year was extended for the Corvette, which helped account for a 30% increase in sales over 1968 to 38,762 units. Coupes would outsell convertibles for the first time at 57% of volume. There were six engine choices that buyers could avail themselves of in 1969, beginning with either a 300 or 350-horse version of the small-block 350 V8. When folks stepped up to the 427, the most ordered edition was the L36 which drew 10,531 buyers of the 390 hp motor. But you could go further by getting 400, 430, and 435 hp 427s depending on carburetor setups and some other tweaking.
We’re guessing the seller’s car has the L36 under the hood. Since the chrome valve covers are pitting and getting rusty, we surmise this car hasn’t seen much in the way of action of late. But the ‘Vette has a new battery, and the carburetor has been cleaned out, so that sounds like some positive movement is already afoot. Note the side exhaust pipes!
With long-term storage, it’s quite possible that the odometer reading of just 50,500 miles is accurate. It’s hard to tell the condition of the body since all the photos are from inside the storage unit, but a new paint job will likely be in order. And the interior will require a thorough detailing as the top has been left down during the ‘Vette’s exile. In an interesting twist, the seller offers to FaceTime with prospective buyers who can’t see the car in person before pulling the trigger. Why didn’t I think of that?!

All you brain dead car guys missed out on a ’69 427 Corvette that sold a few months ago for $6500 at auction. I believe it was Auctionzip.com. I thought about bidding but thought it sell for a crazy amount. It was one of those (ugly)rare conversion Vettes with the station wagon rear clip. The engine had to have been worth the selling price.
