Stored 15+ Years: 1969 Datsun Roadster

d1

This 1969 Datsun 2000 Roadster has been stored by the seller for more than 15 years, along with a parts car (on right in photo above). At some point there was some body damage causing the right front fender to be replaced with the one from the parts car, although the repairable original front fender is included in the sale. The cars are located in El Paso, Texas and are for sale here on eBay. Thanks to reader Jim S. for this great find! The buy-it-now is a steep $15,000, but lower offers are being considered. The seller says the car was running when put into storage, wears it’s original paint and shows no rust. While the pictures are not very clear, it even looks as though the interior is pretty nice under the dust and dirt. The parts car is incomplete, but is included in the auction. If it’s truly rust-free, do you think it’s worth it?

well I was looking at the poor fit, and the dent on top, and my post was incomplete.

Good luck matching the fender to look ‘original;’

Also, I will bet all the mechanicals will have to be redone……. ” neglected” cars from Texas are subject to lots of critters and heat damage,

Compare to this one with 10k Buy it Now …………

It’s a “DTSUN”. Again, perhaps the name of the site should be changed, as it seems EVERYONE thinks a barn find has to be dusty. Like the Bugeye a while back, this could be cleaned up and represented better. I’ve got a feeling, the owner really doesn’t want to sell it. From what I hear, the 2000 was a nicer car than the 1600, and it still looks like a Japanese MGB to me. It is optioned out nice, hardtop and luggage rack, but with the dusty interior, it looks like the hardtop was added later. ( I’m sure the soft top is shot) I rarely comment on the price, none of my business, not going to buy it anyway, but 15g’s confirms, they don’t really want to sell it.

Was running, is the motor at least free now? Too many runners out there for less in some cases way less. Another person watching too many auctions with restored vehicles.

If what you want is a good running 2000 Roadster, $15K is too much for this dusty red 2000 + unknown condition parts car + the hassle of getting 2 cars moved to where you want them. As Dave’s and other recent examples show, there are good running cars out there for less that you can test drive and that don’t have to be cleaned up and maybe fixed.

The Datsun picture I posted is not mine…. just a typical current offering at a typical fair price

Notice to seller: I’ll either buy it or I won’t. I don’t your schpeel. Also, get a better camera, or at least develop some better picture taking skills

The JB Weld (or whatever) repair to the cam cover indicates that the timing chain on this motor broke at some point in its life. For these interference-type motors, that usually results in serious damage. The seller doesn’t mention that incident nor what was done to repair the engine. I’d stay away from it unless the condition of the motor can be determined.

Speaking from 44 years’ experience with Datsun roadsters…
