Dusty and ignored for 20+ years, this 1970 Chevrolet Camaro in Blue Springs, Missouri awaits a new owner to inspect and investigate its parts before sparking it back to life. Like its pink bicycle cell mate, the Camaro once lit up its owner’s eyes, summoning them with a potion of speed and danger. Now its fate plays out here on Craigslist with a batch of as-is pictures and an $8500 asking price. Thanks to reader Chuck F. for spotting this RS-cloned base Camaro.
Bolt-ons from the ’80s or ’90s compliment a non-original 350 cid (5.7L) V8 that reportedly comes with a host of go-fast parts. Condition is unknown and it hasn’t run in years. Bid accordingly. No other engine, except perhaps the GM LS V8, can be built more easily or cheaply than this 350 small block.
What look like later-model bucket seats clash with the ’70s vibe, but they might do fine for a while before hitting the scrap heap. The glove compartment door features four cup holders from a time when they were mostly used while parked at a burger joint or drive-in movie. Grab that rocket-thruster gear shifter and engage any gear to spill the contents of all drinks onto your co-pilot’s legs. Once rehabilitated, the black interior should look great with the high-glow orange/red paint or the original green.
Two front ends graced the new-for-’70 Camaro, with base and SS models sporting a full-width bumper that could be changed to this “split bumper” look with application of the RS (Rally Sport) package. Many prefer the open snout of the RS, but some prize the non-RS look as well.
An aggressive rear spoiler and “RS” callouts generally thrill two classes of buyer: those who never left high school, and those who left high school a very long time ago. The seller describes rust in the rockers and solid floor boards. What’s your top dollar on this RS-cloned split-bumper Camaro?
Lordy do I ever love seeing a Rochester 4bb still on cars. If you know how to fiddle with them (like their throttle plate bushings for example), they are more than capable of getting the job done!
Ummm, that’s an Edelbrock Performer carb…
Oops, nevermind, thats not a Rochester…sigh.
It’s got the complete Edlebrock setup.
Not to state the obvious, but this was a sharp looking car back when.
looks like rear quarters have been flared, probably need new quarters to eliminate
Sad!
Nice ride well worth the price these are very hard to find, wish i had an extra 8500.00. Grew up with these in high school great cars.
She’s had the 80’s treatment! 85-up Firebird seats, wall clock radiator clamped to column, cheaper second gen console, cheap steering wheel, gauge pod screwed on dash bottom. even wheels flares? Oh baby! LOL Sad, because it looks to be a real RS with the deluxe door panels and gauge bezel. Usually copies only contain 2 piece front bumpers and nothing more. Too expensive for most to clone an RS correctly, especially what appears to be mods done in the late 80’s with those junk yard Firebird seats.
Green? The trunk lip looks more like gold or champagne.
Purple sky I must have missed something what is a wall clock radiator strapped to the column never heard that before. But looks like a tachometer to me??
I think he’s referring to the Monster tach on the column. They were pretty much a ‘must have’ back in the day.
Duh melton that was (supposed to be) sarcasm I really didn’t think there was a radiator strapped to the column. But that tach looks like 90’s add to me most in 70-80 we’re using sun super tachs
There is that tach, plus the 2 90’s CDs in the trunk. One of them I recognize as by Nirvana.
Looks to be a fairly complete project car , and not too high a price tag either.
Thats not a ’70, at the earliest its a ’71. ’70 camaros had a one piece. didn’t have three piece rear spoiler until ’71
Something is odd. The engine bay show thats is or was a factory a/c but the dashboard doesn’t have the center a/c outlets.
