Stored For 40 Years: A Pair of 1955 Cadillac Coupes

Here’s one case where you can have your cake and eat it too! Not that I’m proposing that it’s the right avenue to pursue, but we do debate at times in the comments section whether to drive a car “as-is” with the bumps and bruises of the years, or restore it completely to “as-new” or close to it. With this two-Caddy find that for sale here on eBay, you could have one of each! They are located in Rome, New York, and have an opening bid amount of $2,700. I wouldn’t bother with bidding, though, as the buy it now is only $100 more than that. I’m thinking this is close to the best “classic car pounds (weight) per dollar” find we’ve ever featured apart from give away cars!

On the right, we have the more tired looking car of the two, which might have been planned as a parts car for the other one. Despite it’s dilapidated appearance, I think it would be cool to get this one driving enough to show up at a cars and coffee meet. I’ll bet you’d have a huge crowd around the car! The seller says the odometer is showing 8,407 miles and of course it’s flipped over at least once.

The one on the left looks considerably better, and is showing 71,578 miles — no idea if its true or not. You will have one issue on your hands with both cars; neither come with a title. According to the seller, they have both been stored for 40 years!

I’m sure part of it’s tail in the air stance has to do with that massive rear bumper being gone (yes, I can see the flat tire in the front). I found one reference to the front bumper weighing 200 pounds, but I couldn’t find the weight of a rear one. I did, however, find used ones for $465 and rechromed ones for $1000 here on eBay, and those don’t even include the ends! Anyway, the blue one actually looks pretty solid, and for driver purposes I could deal with the paint for a while. Would you part these cars out, try to get one (presumably the blue one) back on the road, or go whole hog and try to get them both running?

In New York, there are no titles pre-1973, and getting a transferable registration is relatively easy with a bill of sale. This is one where I wish I still lived in the sticks!

Talk about cars with attitude- the front end makes “Christine” look like a sissy girl. Opening bid is what, a quarter a pound?

For the green one, leave the outside as is, but just add sealant. Hotrod out the underneath. LS1, Disc brakes etc.
The Blue one is worthy of a proper restoration at some point.

I like the way you think. That said, i’d rather put a 500 c.i. Caddy engine in it. It’d be a hell of a cruiser.

Green on is has air conditioning. You can see the intakes behind the rear window. Worth saving as long as not too much rust.

Those Cadillacs have me written all over them. Crate 502s for the both of them, plus new boots too.
