Straight-Eight Style: 1931 Hudson 8 Coupe

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

This 1931 Hudson 8 coupe, offered here on Facebook Marketplace, presents as a well-preserved example of one of the era’s more distinctive luxury cars. Finished in blue (green according to the ad) over a brown interior, it’s powered by Hudson’s straight-eight engine paired with a manual transmission. The seller notes recent mechanical attention, including a rebuilt carburetor, a cleaned fuel tank, and a new 6-volt electric fuel pump. With a clean title and what’s described as “very good condition,” this coupe could be ready for vintage touring, with some light paintwork and cleaning, or careful preservation. Thanks for the tip Zappenduster!

The long hood and sweeping fenders of the Hudson 8 give it a commanding prewar presence, while the blue paint (listed as green in the ad, so you be the judge on this one) with contrasting black fenders highlights the period styling. Riding on what are likely the original wheels with whitewall tires, the stance is pure early-1930s elegance. The coupe body style adds a sportier profile compared to sedans of the era which would make it even more desirable for collectors.

The brown interior appears period-correct, with a simple dashboard layout and large steering wheel typical of the time. While the seller doesn’t detail upholstery condition, the overall presentation suggests the cabin has been well maintained or restored sympathetically.

Hudson’s straight-eight was known for its smooth power delivery and durability, traits that helped the brand earn a reputation for quality in the interwar years. The seller’s recent mechanical work, including the carburetor rebuild and fuel system cleaning, should help ensure reliable running once fully sorted.

For fans of prewar American luxury, the 1931 Hudson 8 coupe offers a rare chance to own something different from the more common Fords and Chevrolets of the era. Would you preserve it as a largely original driver or restore it to concours-level condition?

The location of the trunk handle says it’s not rumble seat equipped.

I bet cleaning the car up inside and out would do wonders to entice a bidder to at least come look at it.

I think, at the least, the seller should have this Hudson up & running if they hope to get their asking price. And a good cleaning throughout, as mentioned above, wouldn’t hurt either.
That said this would be a nice diversion from the ever present fords of the same era. Not that I mind the fords but a straight eight would be a nice change of pace.

I agree with the previous commentesr. Use the ‘found’ pics & then give it a thorough cleaning to make it presentable. It’s a sharp car, hope if finds a new home. Unfortunately, the demand for these is dwindling as those who appreciate them are becoming fewer.
