Street-Fighting Survivor: 1995 Ford F-150 SVT Lightning

This 1995 Ford F-150 SVT Lightning is a rare and lightly modified version of Ford’s original performance pickup, now listed for auction here on eBay. It’s Lightning #1743 out of just 2,280 produced for 1995, and one of only 695 finished in red. Showing 86,753 miles, this SVT truck retains its clean title and rust-free body, though it does show some cosmetic wear, including clear coat peel, scratches, and surface rust in a few spots. The star of the show is the upgraded B.E.S. 408 stroker V8, which the seller claims produces around 415 horsepower. The engine has only about 5,000 miles on it since a documented rebuild, and while the truck isn’t a garage queen, it’s described as a solid runner with paperwork to back up the mechanical work.

Ford introduced the Lightning in 1993 as a street-oriented muscle truck, and this example represents the second year of the refreshed Gen 1 body style. Originally equipped with a 351 Windsor V8 rated at 240 horsepower, this truck has been given a serious performance boost thanks to the stroker motor. The seller notes that the engine rebuild included addressing cam lobe damage, and that the truck has since seen only light use—sometimes just a few drives a month.

The body is rust-free but honest about its age. The seller points out dings, scratches, a bent tailgate corner with surface rust, and peeling clear coat, which are visible in the listing photos. The bed shows paint rub where a tonneau cover once sat, plus six drilled holes in the bed floor from its past use. The front bumper has surface corrosion, and the chin spoiler shows curb rash and a rip. Despite these cosmetic flaws, the truck’s lowered stance and SVT-specific details—such as its unique wheels—retain the Lightning’s distinctive look.

Inside, the gray cloth interior is said to be in good condition, with no rips or cigarette burns. The original SVT Lightning floor mats are included, and the seller notes that the radio occasionally flickers. A transmission “jet” tuner remains tucked in the ashtray but has been disconnected. The transmission itself has been inspected and serviced, with the seller replacing the aluminum driveshaft with a steel unit after experiencing repeated U-joint issues.

The truck rides on tires that are only a year old with about 500 miles on them, and recent maintenance includes new shocks, fresh rear-end gear oil, and a new differential gasket. The seller has kept detailed paperwork for the engine, repairs, and even the minor fixes like an oil drain plug replacement.

Gen 1 Lightnings have become increasingly collectible, especially low-production colors like this red example. Would you enjoy this one as a street-driven muscle truck, or would you restore it back to its original SVT spec?

I tried reading the ebay ad…. whew. One very long paragraph with a lengthy list of issues, of all flavors. Kudos to the seller for that, I guess. But overall this feels like a rode hard, put away wet example. These are cool trucks, and the ones in good condition bring solid money.

In the long run, Ford found out that it could make more money with a hot rod 4×4 instead of these.I was working at a Ford store when these were about to be released. Somewhere have a certificate stating that I am an FORD SVT trained team member. These were fun trucks. I left Ford shortly after, so I have no first had knowledge of reliability.
