Sultan Approved: 1990 Lamborghini LM002

Get ready to have your face melt: this 10,000 original mile Lamborghini LM002 here on eBay is listed for $399,988 with the option to make a best offer. While I’m sure we just almost set the Guinness World Record for number of eyerolls performed simultaneously, I’m not necessarily surprised by this price. The LM002’s are exceedingly rare and Lamborghinis of this vintage seem to never lose their value. Thanks to Barn Finds reader Jim S. for the find.

The LM002 was an exercise in excess while simultaneously answering a question no body asked. Well, maybe they did – given the “Rambo Lambo’s” popularity among wealthy princes and other royalty that wanted to dominate the desert, the LM002 provided the prestige, power and capabilities to navigate sand dunes with ease. The interior provided all the comforts you’d expect from this exclusive Italian brand, with unique engineering details like the Pirelli Scorpion tires developed solely for the unusual 4×4.

Under the hood, the V12 in the engine bay was lifted directly from the Countach supercar. If that wasn’t enough power, you could also specify a worked V12 meant for a Lamborghini speedboat application. However, the 444 b.h.p. on tap would certainly be enough to be endlessly entertained by this outrageous truck from an automaker more known for designing cars that cheated the air around it and sat as close to the ground as possible. It is seven-year lifespan, only 328 were produced.

Given the low production numbers and desirability of Lamborghinis made in the 80s and earlier, I’m not surprised the seller has listed this LM002 with such a high asking price. It likely won’t sell for that much, but it will certainly catch the eye of a collector who knows how rarely these come up for grabs, especially with such low mileage. This desert-runner Lamborghini is more often seen locked away in the collection of a Saudi prince, but now’s your opportunity to own one for yourself and cruise at triple-digit speeds on road or off. .

I had the pleasure (or misfortune) of changing out a H2O pump on an LM002 a few years back. The pumps fail around 10k miles but there is an upgraded one available for around $4k.
At $399k this LM aught to be well sorted. Although the mileage seems low, lots of $$$$$ can still be put into repairs.

Super cool SUV, I remember when these came out. They are unbelievably rare, I have only seen 2 at various car auctions over the years. There is something that is prone to failure in the drive train that is virtually impossible to source parts for and fix, I wish I could remember what it was. I think this is one you buy and just look at…

I’m sure it was made of leather, or probably the skin of some endangered, exotic animal, but the shift boot always reminded me of a drawstring trash bag.

Horatio Pagani’s first project. Built incredibly tough. This is one of the rare Diablo powered monsters. Really a ridiculous machine. No room for tall people in the passenger compartment. The clutch is very stiff but is floor mounted so driving in traffic is not pleasant. 270 liter fuel tank that still does last very long because it gives single digit fuel economy. Makes cool noises when you wind it out but at 6500 pounds it really doesn’t go anywhere particularly quickly. If you’re patient and have enough fuel it’ll eventually get north of 150mph…apparently. Never got that brave. For the guy that can’t figure out what else to spend his money on…

One ran the 1989 version of the One Lap of America. All of the other competitors watched and gasped as the driver spun the Lambo on the banking at Ascot Motor Speedway!

For that price you can get either the red one or the one in white on the same dealer website…

WOW! Incredible! Great red color, but the interior color? Weird looking gearshift setup…… The 12 cylinder engine certainly fills up the engine bay!

I would much prefer the blue Diablo on the lift behind it. I always thought the Diablo was the best looking lambo ever, but that is just my opinion

Leno and his guest said $120,000US in 1990. That is like $225,000US in today’s dollars…

As awesome as this thing is Detroit can out perform this.
Correct me if I’m wrong but can’t a new Escalade out perform this, and how about a Raptor.
It does look and sound cool but I know the Detroit iron gets better mileage.
How much money and how many cars would I need before buying this, and I do love it.

I’m sure you are right, the Grand Cherokee SRT certainly does.

Technology had made all the supercars of our past seem lacklustre.

That’s why all the 911 guys need to rely on the “driving experience” to warrant the crazy asking prices.

Hopefully the driving experience outweighs getting your doors blown off by the kid driving mom’s Camry.
