Sun Baked Survivor: 1967 Camaro RS

It might not be a Z/28 or even an SS, but this ’67 Camaro is still a sweet find! It’s an RS optioned survivor with it’s original 327 V8. After spending 25 or so years parked out in the Arizona sun, the paint and interior are well baked, but the car’s complete. If this looks like the kind of project you’d like to take on, you can find it here on eBay in San Diego, California with a current bid of $9,900.

We’ve seen lots of desert finds that have been baked to a crisp, but are incredibly solid. Sadly this Camaro isn’t one of those finds, as it does have some rust issues. Much of it appears to just be surface rust at this point, but there are definitely some issues hiding under the carpet. The seller states that other than rust in the driver’s side door seal and couple spots in the floors the car is otherwise very solid. They don’t offer any photos of the floors or underside of the car though, which makes you wonder what’s going on underneath.

The engine is said to be the original, but the previous owner apparently had the heads and carb rebuilt. They got the heads installed, but never got around to installing the carb or valve covers. Thanks to some selective photography, you really can’t tell what’s going on in the engine bay and there’s no word on whether the engine turns over or not. Given all the projects sitting around the seller’s garage, it appears they are running a used car dealership of sorts, making the lack of information and photos a bit more disconcerting. They do state that they can provide more photos of the rust issues upon request, so if you are interested it would be worth contacting them.

This one could be a bit of a gamble, but it is an early Camaro RS with bucket seats in a good color combo. While it probably deserves a complete restoration, it would be fun to fix the floors, restore the interior and get it running while leaving the exterior looking rough. What do you think though, is that heresy or a fun idea?

They abuse the car for 25 years, leave the engine open for who knows how long and then ask $10,000 for it.

    No thanks.

judging by the air cleaner in the trunk I think its running the 210hp 327 / glide combo looks fairly rust free but its been beat hard. probably worth the price. to bad it was not a L30/M20 car.

I like the earliest Camaros as well as the next guy. But someone explain why anyone thinks a sun baked, left to rot in the sun, slushbox 327 that needs to be completely dismantled and rebuilt at a hellacious cost is worth at this moment, ten grand?

That was a stick shift car, I also think it was a non-RS.

I want this and the 1966 GTO parked in back of it. Two of my favorite cars.

I have a 68 RS purchased in 1989 that has been restored by a guy in Ohio using NOS sheet metal and most of my work was brakes and the AC levers under the dash. Since buying it I’ve collected 47 trophies This sun baked relic will cost more to restore than what I would take for mine. Look elsewhere and buy a car to drive rather than trying to bring this back to life

If got 68 just as bad or worse it has cost a lot of money to get it back same thing sat in desert for years is not worth it time money you can’t break even

Considering it’s condition. I am not giving that kind of money for a run of the mill Camaro. You put an easy $12-15 k into to have a car that is worth maybe $17k when your done. It is worth about $4 k tops! But some suck will pay more.

Camaro, Solid CA car, V8, RS & AC. Power Steering. Worth Restoring for sure. Lots of work and lots of money required. Not sure who said good color combo….black interior is great….the old man gold or old lady beige…..I guess there are worse colors. I don’t think a color change on this car will hurt its value, in my book it would increase it.

rust is still rust = lots of work to make the car “pre rust” condition. No doubt the rust on this car is, IF you HAVE to have rust, better than rot for sure.

I’d upgrade the brakes to power and disc, clone it to an RS/SS Big Block 4 sp, this car is WILL be worth more, now and in the future, and more “sellable”. We have all seen the clones sell very strong, not as strong as the real thing BUT very strong. This Camaro restored as built…..will only be worth what a base RS Camaro will ever bring which in this case is LESS than what it will take to restore it. My opinion. I’m out.

If you can do it, RS Z28 Clone done right is the way to go.

Sad thing is that most seem to be getting the $$$ they are asking for these.
After a long wait, I finally own a ’65 Mustang and I am hoping it won’t be the last classic car I buy…. The prices are definitely not something I can afford on most of these classics…… :(

Don’t understand thats a $25000 car finished all the body work done new paint engine and trans finished ,new tires brakes & interior finished, If I were looking for a Camaro like that I’d just look for a finished one, You would be hard pressed to get that car nicely done for the above money, Heck it’s $10000 just to get a car painted anymore
