Super Clean: 1972 Chevrolet Corvette

This pewter colored 1972 Corvette is for sale in Fort Davis, Texas. Fort Davis is a small town in West Texas surrounded by open roads and beautiful mountains. The Corvette retains its numbers matching 350 cubic inch V8 engine and 4 speed transmission. It can be seen here on eBay with a current bid of $9,062. The paint color in the pictures has a greenish tint to it but that might just be the effect of the angle of the sun when the pictures were taken.

The owner states that over $15,000 of work has been done on the car since 2015. The receipts are from a shop in Boerne, Texas just west of San Antonio, Texas where I live. The car has a black interior that could use some detailing. The car appears to have an after market steering wheel and radio but other wise is stock inside. The modifications to the exterior include Cragar wheels and side pipes. The mileage on the car appears to exceed the odometer limits.

Don’t you just love the lines of the C3? From every angle, it is beautiful. The car was sitting before its refurbishment and the owner has all the receipts posted on eBay so you can see the work done to the brakes, engine, cooling system, etc. It does not appear that any corners were cut during the mechanical work. The car also boasts new tires. 1972 was a strike year at GM and it was the last year for the full chrome bumpers front and rear. While it is not stated, this car is probably equipped with the L48 350 cubic inch engine which was rated at 200 horsepower using the new SAE ratings in 1972.

The car comes with a clean title, original keys, owners manual and the original carburetor. With 23 bids, there is some interest in the car and there are 2 days left in the auction. So who likes this color and would like to drive it home?

If I remember correctly, the 73 had the rear chrome bumper and polyurethane front end.

You’re correct, which is one reason this ’72 is more appealing to many (including me). The thin bumper look has grown on me over the years, though my dad and older sister both had ’66 Corvettes (a coupe and a convertible) when I was a kid, and that model is still my favorite.

I was thinking 1969 was the strike year?

I see rust on the speedometer face and rust stains running down drivers A pillar . Buyer check that bird cage and frame rust issues , this could make for an expensive repair.

Agreed Keith!..didn’t Texas experience a major flood last season?..this could be a survivor?

1970 was the strike year. Chris M. I agree my first thought too. Same for the steering wheel. 1970 is my favorite year, then 1969. 1972 was first year of net horsepower rating, hence the lower HP reported number, although they were all down due to Gov interference after 1970.

That is a great looking car! The documentation is a bonus.

Steering wheel looks great – almost factory – maybe 4 inches further from the chest. That’s what Chevy should have used instead – starting in ’68 – maybe even earlier. Might be an issue with non PS cars, but GM’s excellent PS should have been standard on vettes.
When i look at the beautiful curves & rear end of this car, & then compare the rear of the 2019, i just shake my head, thinking it could not get any worse – till i saw the high rear end of the mid engined 2020 with all those cheap tacky black addons glued/screwed on all over.

Nice C3, however, I know fit and finish wasn’t job one at GM back then, but the hood fit, headlight doors, and body lines look a kinda hinkey.

Looks to me like this car sat in flood water over the door sills. That’s dried out condensation in the speedo. Lots of tell tale brown all over the place. New side pipes ? cheaper than new stock exhaust ? Carb. rebuild. new wheels and tires. Not quite right. IMHO. Later……………………JIMMY

    Jimmy, you may be right.
JoeNYWF64 don’t knock the 2020 cars. It is an awesome car a generational thing. These chrome bumper cars will always have a special place in my heart

The silver gray color with a slight greenish tint could be Steel Cities Gray if repainted, Paint code 988. Also offered in 1971 but my memory from back then is that 1971 was much less green, almost imperceptible. I had a 1972 in this color and was parked next to a 1971 in the same color and recall seeing a noticeable difference.
Note: Pewter Silver was also offered in 1972 but it is truly a silver color which is what this car was originally painted as the trim tag has paint code 924.

No one has said it, so I have to. You want to sell your car. Fair amount of photos. You have a 1.5 single spaced letter from the resto shop telling of all the under hood work that was (supposedly) done BUT you can’t open the hood and take ONE PHOTO of the engine?!

I have owned several of these and I am not sure what is going on with the color.

Love Crager SS wheels but not on this car.

Don’t know much about these vettes, what are the two switches in the center console hanging below air vents?

Smoke screen and oil slick prayer. Great for evading capture!

Is the price dropping on C-3 vetts??? It could very well be a flood car from that area of Texas!! It might be best to check this one out in person!!
