After purchasing this retired drag racer for a restomod project, the owner of this 1969 Chevrolet Camaro in Bellville, Ohio decided it might be too well-fabricated and too interesting to have its personality erased by such a comprehensive makeover. Buyers with an interest in keeping the nostalgic Super Stock car closer to what you see here can secure that privilege for $30,000. The listing on Facebook Marketplace shows solid metal with surface rust and a custom-fabricated rear superstructure capable of handling far more power than stock. Thanks to reader Matt I. for spotting this sweet ’69.
A void under the hood awaits the new owner’s powerplant of choice. The low-profile hood suggests it last ran with a not-too-radical induction setup. While front or even four-wheel disc brakes were available in 1969, drums front and rear would have been the drag-racer’s choice as they can be adjusted a bit loose to reduce rolling resistance. Thanks to GMHeritageCenter for some details.
Fat Goodyears on the back, aged paint, casually applied stickers, and hand lettering grant this Camaro a menacing pose. Only a lumpy cam and loud exhaust will do for this nasty coupe.
The original yellow V8 Camaro holds no special value based on its VIN and body tag, and you can buy a complete 1969 Camaro unibody for under half of this car’s asking price, which begs the question of why it would become either a perfect restoration or a restomod.
If there’s one thing that folks should agree on, it’s that the world has enough factory-perfect specimens of the 1969 Camaro to let this one remain a ’70s drag car. Mechanical and safety updates may be required, but let’s see this pony car live a second life with minimal cosmetic changes. Something like Nostalgic Super Stock may be perfect for this modified Chevy. How would you bring this vintage strip car back to life?
I would start bringing this car back to life by not paying more than 10K for it. Perfect for vintage drag racing after you’ve put a lot of time and money into the parts to get it running and looking good.
You are right, it’s way overpriced. If it has a future as a race car it will become a bracket car, if it’s lucky. if not it will become someone’s grudge night bomber.

“Drums front and REAR” – where?
No facebook so I cant read about what famous driver blasted this Camaro down the strip, the only reason in my mind that would set the price so high. Despite no engine just looking at it I can hear the high lift long duration cam L88 427 wobbling at idle and then come screaming to life to clear its throat….noise, lots of wonderful noise.
You can buy a race ready 69 Camaro for the kind of money being asked for this car. Which will need an additional $25,000 in rear trans engine safety updates and cosmetics. Unless Don Garlits raced this car someone is nuts. Take it from a guy who set 27 world records in SS/EA .
Ervin you were damn good lots of info on google about you congrats on your career hats off
Did you race against Ron Terrell, Tin Soldier, much? He has ran at the US Nationals for about 46 years straight.
Just last year, a 1968 former Super Stock Camaro was selling for $20K and was race ready. If this person gets half of what he is asking, take it.
There is one thing you cannot change after you buy this project… the price. 30 grand plus resto on the under carriage and suspension, then rear end to radiator $$$. Just can’t get those number to work.
Ten grand seems correct indeed.
What type of rear suspension is that?
Hmm overpriced but cool 69 model..
Repaint and reapply classic stickers to keep the created nostalgic vibe going 👍
I would set a LS engine underneath and keep the hood down 😉

Another delusional seller with a piece of crap that thinks its a gold mine.
Although I don’t remember it, I’ve probably seen this car run back in the day. Kil-Kare is my local race track just west of Xenia Ohio. I ran there through out the seventies and early eighties.
30K will get you a fairly nice car these days. You’d have to want this one pretty bad to pay that for an old ex-racer roller. IMO.
I saw this in person today at the Goodguys show in Columbus Ohio. It really is a nice solid car. It was for sale for 24k in the swap meet Pavillion
He’s had a lot more beers since then , now he wants 30k that’s some funny sh%$. That car isn’t no 30k car ,10k and you better have some deep pockets , lots of hidden headaches I would bet .
