Supercharged! 1952 MG TD

This cute 1952 MG is said to be a one-family California car! It can be found here on eBay with a current bid of $11,100. Still located in the California town of Burlingame, I bet this car is a blast to drive around the Bay Area. Although the ad doesn’t have a ton of information, the photos tell a decent story. Let’s take a closer look at this rollicking roadster.

Unfortunately, nearly all the photos in the ad are blurry. Here you can see the supercharger bolted to the side of the engine. The seller doesn’t say how the engine runs, but you can see a new fuel filter, belt, and hoses, so the car is probably regularly driven. The ad says that the supercharger adds about 20% more power, which seems reasonable.

The woodgrain dash and gauges are very nice looking. The car has been repainted at some point, which the seller says was done “many years ago.” These cars have a pretty small cockpit area, so if you’re planning on sharing it with a passenger, hopefully, you don’t mind being that close.

Here is a great shot of the roadster cover that comes with the car. Perfect for those sudden afternoon showers while you’re having lunch along the coast. Overall, this car looks like a nice driver-quality ride and I’m sure it will find a good home where it will be enjoyed for years to come. How about you? Are you a fan of European sports cards like this?

Fans here. We had a ’53, red with tan interior, and a lot of fun. Picked it up in Lemore, CA and drove it across the mountains in the rain, using the windshield wiper by hand, to east of Reno, NV. That wasn’t as much fun as getting it to Key West, FL and cruising around the island on the weekends. Either way, entertainment on wheels. This is a nice car here.

amazed @ how these retain their value (well, price as inflation makes a diff). Sis got a ’53 TD for college grad in mid/late 60s @ 14,000$. 10 yrs later did a nut/bolt restore (even plywood recut). Sold it for 14K$ in ’80. I saw them in the late 90s for…yup U guessed it 14K. Sixty yrs later what will it get? You’d think the era correct power adder would increase to…?

The MG TC/TD/TF are getting to be a lot like Model T Fords, in that there are a lot of them around, a lot of them in good or better condition and enough for sale at any one time that their value is low, stuck in the teens. Chrisful is really on the money, these cars really haven’t changed much in value over the years. I had a customer buy one in nice shape with blown head gasket for $9000 in 1998, fixed and sold for $13,500. He bought another, unrestored but well kept and maintained for about $10k and sold it after some basic maintenance, cleaning and so on for $14k. I think the Supercharger adds a bit to this car but then its unrestored and has rough edges so the $15,500 it sold for is a solid buy, maybe even strong money for it.
