When I first saw the listing for this dusty old Ramcharger, I had my doubts that it would be worth $7,500. But when you peek into the listing, you see it’s actually a pretty solid truck that really just needs to be detailed to present much better than it does here. The seller recounts that it is in great condition aside from the air conditioning and fuel gauge not working, and that it comes with new brakes front and rear. Ramchargers are only going to get more valuable, so a rust-free runner like this one here on craigslist for $7,500 could be a bargain in the near term.
See what I mean? This would likely present much, much better if the paint were just washed down and buffed out a bit. The turbine-style wheels are period correct and some meatier rubber would also make those look better as well. I suspect the chrome bumpers would pop as well if they were shined up. I can also understand why the seller didn’t touch these areas as it may just be an old truck to him, and not a future collector’s item.
The photo of the interior isn’t great, but what we can see shows us that the upholstery is in very nice condition and the Ramcharger comes with a very attractive set of OEM bucket seats and a full center console. To me, this truck just keeps checking all the boxes, and if the paint isn’t completely sunburnt by the Texas sunshine, a flipper could do quite well to shine this one up and re-post it for sale. The interior looks like the 96K on the clock is likely accurate.
There’s an aftermarket air cleaner on the 5.2L V8 that’s paired to the standard automatic transmission. That’s another easy fix: throw the OEM air cleaner on here and detail the engine bay, and you’ve got a Ramcharger that looks like it’s in dang near stock condition. The squarebody 4×4 of the late 1980s is a very hot market and likely will be well into the future, so I’d buy this one now, clean it up, and re-list it for a rainy day after you’ve gotten a few hundred miles of enjoyment out of it.
Had this exact combination on my 87. Stance seems to low to be a 4×4. Can’t be many 2wd Ramchargers out there. Two tone paint, cloth interior and console. Turbine wheels were an option. Royal SE PACKAGE.. Just a bit over $15,000 when I bought mine as a new leftover in December of 87
Yep rear wheel drive only not a 4×4 so you would have to put a lot of weight in the rear compartment and good winter tires for winter driving So its basically a station wagon that can haul a trailer
Two wheel drives were very common in the south. Still are. In texas, where I live, you see many more 2WD 4runners than 4WD; for example
It probably has a posi under it. The only thing I never liked about the Dodge and Plymouth . Was the window and tailgate was built in together. I,d rather have a posi then a 4 wheel drive .Because they are –easier to get in and out. and alot less maintance.
Friend of mine had a 2WD Ramcharger which he used to haul around snowmobile trailers, etc. He got a decent deal on it but here in Wisc., 4WD might have made his life a little easier, esp. since he purchased it for snowmobiling, meaning a lot of winter driving. He just needed a lot of trailer tongue weight and it went ok for him though.
It was a reliable vehicle for him as I recall.
