Survivor Quality: 1975 Pontiac Firebird Formula 350

Second-generation Firebirds have steadily gained appreciation over the years, and finding one that hasn’t been heavily modified or restored can be a real challenge. This 1975 Pontiac Firebird Formula 350, listed here on craigslist in [location not specified], is presented by the seller as a highly original survivor with just 68,000 miles and its original paint. The Formula variant brought extra performance flair compared to a base Firebird, and with factory air conditioning, power steering, power brakes, and rally wheels, this car represents a well-rounded package for enthusiasts seeking a collectible driver.

According to the listing, this Firebird has always been garage kept and shows no rust, a rare claim for a car approaching its 50th birthday. The paint presents as original, which is impressive considering how many of these cars were repainted over the years. The body lines look straight in the photos, and the Formula-specific details, like the twin hood scoops, are intact.

Power comes from a 350-cubic-inch V8 with a 4-barrel carburetor, and the seller states that the car “runs great.” While 1975 was not the peak of Firebird performance thanks to emissions restrictions, the Formula offered buyers a sportier driving experience without stepping up to the Trans Am. With the right tuning, these 350s can still deliver plenty of enjoyment on modern roads.

Inside, the Formula carried subtle upgrades that set it apart from the base Firebird. While specific interior shots are limited, the car appears to be well preserved. The listing doesn’t note any major flaws beyond the expected patina of age. With the addition of factory air conditioning, this Firebird was optioned for both comfort and style, making it a practical classic that could be enjoyed in warmer climates.

For collectors who value originality, this car offers a rare chance to acquire a Firebird that hasn’t been heavily altered. Survivor cars like this often serve as excellent references for restorers, and they continue to attract strong interest in the market. While the seller calls it an “easy resto,” many enthusiasts may choose to simply preserve its originality and enjoy it as-is.

Would you restore this Firebird Formula 350 to showroom condition, or preserve its originality and keep enjoying it as a survivor?

“Hasn’t been heavily altered” left the building when the aftermarket T-tops were installed, IMO. Still a cool car.

Technically, you’re correct. However, if it was done by the original dealer pre-sale, or by the first buyer as a “day one” modification, I’d probably still call it “original.”

Dealers didn’t do C&C t-tops in 75 (nor in 76, 77, 78…). These likely installed in the 80s by an aftermarket trim shop.

This is the 5th time it’s been featured on this site since September 2024, when the seller was asking $26,500. Even though they keep lowering the price, the market is rejecting it. It’s doesn’t look bad, but when you are less than 40 miles from such a large population center as New York City and it’s taking that long to sell something is off.

That ugly white interior does NOT help the sale

The paint is shot, it looks good in the pictures, but look closely at the rear deck lid and quarter panels. It should be priced in the mid-teens, it’s a low option car with a 350 2bbl.

Always liked the looks of the formulas but garaged or not, being a NY car I’d want to see underside photos. Paint’s showing some wear and those aftermarket T-Tops don’t help. I think he’s pushing his luck even with the price drop.
