Survivor Special: 1990 Ford Mustang 7-Up Edition 5-Speed

Among the more unusual Fox-body Mustangs produced, the 1990 Ford Mustang 7-Up Edition stands out for both its origin story and limited production numbers. This example, listed here on Craigslist in Garfield, NJ, is described as a documented 34,000-mile survivor and one of just 1,360 factory 5-speed convertibles built for this special edition. According to the seller, the car spent decades in California under the care of its original owner, who purchased it new at age 50 and only parted with it at 80 after 32 years of ownership. Thanks for the tip Mitchell G.!

Originally conceived as a promotional giveaway tied to the soft drink brand, the 7-Up Edition ultimately became a rare production run of green Mustangs with white convertible tops and interiors. This car, the seller claims, has been carefully pampered since new, retaining its originality with only light upgrades such as a Bluetooth-equipped radio for modern convenience.

The seller notes the car “needs nothing” and is a true survivor. With new tires recently fitted, it is said to be a blast to drive and consistently draws compliments wherever it goes. Fox-body Mustangs are already popular at shows, but the rarity of the 7-Up Edition ensures this one is usually the only example in attendance.

The 5.0-liter V8 paired with a 5-speed manual transmission makes this one of the more desirable drivetrain combinations offered in the Fox-body era. The seller emphasizes that very few low-mileage, low-ownership cars like this remain, particularly in 5-speed form.

Inside, the white leather upholstery and anniversary details remain in excellent condition, consistent with its limited use. The car is further described as an excellent-driving, collectible survivor that has been preserved rather than restored, which only adds to its appeal among enthusiasts who value originality.

The 7-Up Edition remains one of the most unique Fox-body stories, an advertising tie-in that became a collector favorite. With its clean history, rare 5-speed configuration, and low documented mileage, this example represents a special opportunity for Mustang fans.

Would you preserve this 1990 Mustang 7-Up Edition as a survivor, or enjoy it as a collectible driver at every car show?

My favorite shade of green on a fox body Mustang. And that white interior always made these pop to me. Id love to have one of these. They always say to buy the best one you can find, and I think you’d be hard pressed to find one nicer. If I bought it, Id drive it every nice day I could with a huge grin on my face from ear to ear every time.

Nice car wish I was in a position to get it, elderly owned doesn’t really mean much to me I know senior citizens who have fast cars and they drive them like they were meant to be driven.

If it is as nice in person as the pics, look like a great , fun car at a reasonable price

Though we call these “7-Up” Mustangs, they were never publicly associated with 7-Up. 7-Up cancelled their NCAA promotion at the very last minute, so Ford repackaged the car into the first of four LX 5.0 convertible special editions. These cars have one detail that distinguishes them from other Fox-body convertibles: the 7-Up cars are the only examples with a white console and lower dashboard. Other Fox convertibles with white interior had either red or titanium console and dashboard.

Definitely sweet with the 5spd, but my favorite was the ‘93 Canary Yellow convertible feature car with the black top and interior…and must have the 5spd. Decent price too considering the overall condition. Can’t beat that 5.0 growl on start-up.
