Sweet Fleet: 1975 Chevrolet C-10

It’s amazing to see the old pickup market creep up, I hope that it doesn’t creep up too high so these trucks turn into garage queens instead of vehicles that get used for pickup duties. This nice 1975 Chevrolet C-10 pickup is listed on eBay with a current bid price of more than my parents paid for their house on two acres in 1961: $8,100. And, the reserve isn’t even met yet! This one is located in not-horrible-sounding Paradise, California.

This is one cool truck. A shortbed, fleetside, pickup in orange (“Grecian Bronze”) with no visible rust or even a mention of rust. I do see surface rust in the bed but that’s it. The owner mentions that the “body on this truck is in overall good condition with minor dings and scratches as you would expect to find on a truck of this age. It looks nice and shines very well.” You can see some future “patina” on the hood in this photo.

The third-generation Chevy pickups are coming on strong right now in the collector market. But most vehicles are coming on strong right now, at least until the next crash/recession. I really know how to take all the fun out of things, don’t I? The seller says that “Most of the electrical works as it should. This includes headlights, taillights, brake lights, turn signals, reverse lights, license plate light, wipers, dash lights, etc.” I’m not sure what doesn’t work but a quick message should get an answer for that question.

I don’t know why I have such a thing for clear plastic seat covers, maybe it’s because I always think that they were on there from day one and have perfectly preserved the seats. I don’t know if that’s the case here but this interior sure looks great. The “front seat looks nice with very minor wear.” The door panels look good, especially the driver’s side. I must be seeing things but it looks like the bottom corner of the passenger door has been touched up. I could be wrong. Maybe they did that when the speakers were painted?

They say that this is a 350 V8 which would have had 145 hp with a 2-barrel carb and 160 hp with a 4-barrel. This “truck runs great and is mechanically sound. Recent work done to the motor includes new edelbrock carburetor, new fuel pump, water pump, starter, alternator, new battery, all new belts and hoses, and a new radiator. A new muffler and tailpipe were installed.” It sure looks clean in there, eh? This whole truck looks clean. I’d want to check it out in person before dropping $10k (just a guess at what it’ll sell for). Any thoughts on this ’75 C-10?

At least it has the nicely styled American bed.

The Mexican trucks had a butt ugly bed in those years. I will never buy one.

Even though the one in this picture looks like it has been hit, this is they Mexican style bed.

I see what you mean, Hermano. It probably had to do with requiring a certain percentage of ‘local content’ when the truck was assembled.

NZ had a minimum local content percentage when it had a vehicle assembly industry, and truck beds, especially, were muy fugly and probably based on some cervesa-induced origami.

I guess you could import a US-made bed if you really wanted to…

This is the bed that was used on the 1967 – 1972 Mexican trucks. It is not as bad as the later version, but it is very different from the American bed.

Since there are plenty of American trucks here, I wouldn’t go through the trouble of changing a Mexican truck.

Ewwweee I actually dislike very much on a pain scale of 1-10, 10 being the greatest, very much.

I like the American bed as much as I dislike the Mexican bed which is to say that I will never buy a Mexican truck with this bed.

It takes all the charm away from the truck.

The money is following non-extended cab short bed fleetside trucks, everything else from the mid-70s to mid-90’s are also rans. Long beds and stepsides are largely afterthoughts for the collector end of the truck market.

This is nice, based on the prices this seller has on his other items the reserve won’t be cheap and shouldn’t be.

Is this truck sold in the US? It is a 2017 regular cab short bed.

Yes, there is a standard cab short bed available. The one in your picture is a 4×4, I didn’t check for those, but I’d be surprised if you couldn’t get one. You definitely don’t seem many standard cab short beds anymore, I have a 2001 with that configuration that I bought new. I love it. I can’t see a reason to part with it even though I’m asked in a regular basis.

The majority of trucks sold in Mexico are this configuration.

You either get this or the 4 door fully loaded truck, there is no in between.

The bigger the front end gets, the weirder the whole truck looks.

I don’t see a use for it, really. The cab hauls maybe 3 people, if it has a bench seat, and the bed hauls very little.

Yes, I have a 2016 nearly identical to the one in the picture. Not super common though. Most are four door.

Nice truck but those plastic seat covers are bad because once removed the fabric goes to hell quick, my parents had a set on our new couch for years then they decided to remove them and within a year the fabric fell apart and they bought a new couch and did not put those on. Also in humid climate you will stick to them with shorts on.

Nice truck, but no A/C in Northern California. that’s a tough hombre. Paradise is a very small town, very poor town, this truck seems out of place there. Maybe the new owner will add A/C or live somewhere A/c is not required. Good luck to all of you.

I would rather have this truck over that 46 any day of the week. Vintage Air is easy enough to add.

That’s the kind of truck I’m looking for, but not as a garage queen as you mentioned. IDK why short beds are in demand.(?). To me, long beds are the way to go.

Here’s a “flipper” if I ever did see one. Shame, these are so hard to find like this. Somebody gonna put this on their lot in Ohio ( or some rust state) and ask big bucks. Somebody will buy it, because they were so popular, and simply can’t be found today. Nicest pickup you could buy in ’75.

I had one of these, a 86 model short bed, same color and similar options I paid $800. No it didnt come prettied up with a krylon’d engine compartment, but I liked it.

These are nice trucks, but you need A/C.
I just picked up a 78 GMC C25 Camper Special, factory 454 with factory air. Long bed naturally. Tu-tone green exterior and green interior (I like green). Western truck with no rust, can’t wait for it to show up here in NJ this weekend. These trucks are getting more and more popular as the 50’s and early 60’s trucks are becoming less and less affordable.

This is so clean, I had to look again to see if this is a resto or not.

The price of the old trucks like the Chevrolet and ford are now high because one asked a lot of money for his and someone paid it. That’s only my opinion of course. I’ve had several over the years and didn’t pay that much for all of them together.

It is true the prices of Fords and Chevys are going through the roof while you can pick up Dodge truck for next to nothing.

The best part aside from the condition over all is it’s simplicity. It has the manual heater and fan controls. Much more durable than the electric controls of the late 80’s when those trucks went to crap. I do wonder if that instrument cluster has had an after market overlay applied to it. It should be black for a standard C-10 like that. Oh wait it is a Custom Deluxe. Still don’t look right to me though.

We know you could get a newer truck for a lot less. But if you are willing to pay 8 to 10 grand. So be it. My favorite trucks still.
