Sweet Little Ride: 1959 Rambler American

'59 Rambler American

Under 30,000 of the Rambler American Deluxe and the Super models were produced in 1959. There were only 443 Business Coupes produced in 1959. Listed here on craigslist Colorado Springs, Colorado is this 1959 Rambler American priced at $3K.

'59 Rambler American engine

Pete, the seller, says this Rambler is all stock except for the Mustang wheels. Up front there is the 196.5 flat-head with the Borg-Warner Flashomatic transmission.

'59 Rambler American dash

The odometer shows 99,011 on it. We don’t know the total miles on the car and/or the engine.

'59 Rambler American int

Pete reports there are new brakes, master cylinder, and heater core. The radiator and the carburetor have been refurbished and rebuilt. The door and front seat have not as of yet.

'59 Rambler American back seat

The backseat appears to be in good condition.

'59 Rambler American rust

There are four images with the ad of problem rust areas. Pete says that there is: “typical floorboard rust where your feet go on the floor”.

'59 Rambler American rear left

Yes there is even a continental kit! There are two new tires and two that are at 90%. If the rust areas can be addressed at a reasonable cost, whatever that is, this could be a nice little ride. Are you up for it?

Motor-on,

Robert

Reminds me of the car Goober took apart and reassembled in the Mayberry courthouse.

Now, that would be a barn find deluxe.

That episode was just on this week in Raleigh area!

Notice the blanked-out dealer’s frame and black 1963 California plate, HJC 797, probably original to the car!

Nope. In 1959, California plates were black on yellow.

Had I seen that car on the street, I never would have guessed it was a Rambler.
These must not have made the rounds, because I thought I pretty much knew the cars from this era.

    Stll learning.

My grandmother bought a new one of those in 1958. She couldn’t see over the dash and bounced it off every inanimate object she could find in Philthydelphia, PA. Traded in a mint Sheridan Blue 1950 Ford Custom Club Coupe to do it, too!

Good and basic transportation. These Rambler’s had good power at low speed and seemed to run forever with good maintenance.

Get rid of those horrible wheels.

We need a law prohibiting modern alloy wheels on vintage cars of this era. Spoils the car’s looks entirely!

Fred, how on earth did you remember that?

Jim, way too many hours of Andy Griffith watching. And other vintage sitcoms.

That’s awesome. I thought I had seen every car episode they made, including the 1948 Hudson Terraplane, the 1961 Edsel convertible and Aunt Bee slipping the clutch on her black 1955 Sunliner with Fordomatic. Now, I’ll have to look for this one!

Here’s another typical craigslist seller, going to improve his vintage car and make it more salable by adding his own body work and s***-for-brains wheels. He makes a compelling argument against legalizing recreational drugs.

Honestly it would look better sitting on cinder blocks rather than those wheels.

This appears to be an OHV 6, not a flathead. Nice car, not so nice on price for a heavily rusted car.

We are restoring a Rambler wagon two door in the body shop, they are really cool,
    I think they are a rare car…………….
