Sweet Survivor: 1972 Ford Bronco

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

I was very surprised to find that this 1972 Ford Bronco is still wearing its original paint! It’s listed for sale here on eBay and is located in Tuscon, Arizona. The seller has a buy it now of $45,000 but they are also interested in offers. You won’t find many Broncos looking this nice!

It’s nice to see the original wheel covers and even the brand new narrow whitewall tires look terrific. The current owner purchased the car from the original helicopter mechanic owner, who must have maintained the early SUV well. The vehicle certainly wears it’s 139,000 miles well, doesn’t it?

Ford must have had some decent paint in 1972 as well. Question for you Broncophiles: do you see anything that isn’t original here?

Even the original interior looks great. Who knew they put velour interiors (isn’t that what it is?) This Bronco features three on the tree (somehow that’s just right for one of these early SUVs) and a new clutch, pressure plate and brakes as well. The seller tells us it “drives like a dream on the interstate at speeds up to 100 miles per hour.” Given the short wheelbase, high center of gravity and aged suspension and steering (that wasn’t that precise to begin with) whomever buys this car can have my chance at that drive!

Here we have the original 302 cubic inch pushrod V8, complete with awkward looking original air cleaner (although that battery hold-down and overflow tank don’t look original to me). Do you agree with the seller that this Bronco wouldn’t disappoint anyone?

Probably about as clean & showroom stock as anyone can find. But a BIN of $45K?! I’m just not buying into this current ‘fad’ of jacking the prices of first-gen Broncos to the insane level. There is nothing worth anywhere NEAR $45K here; maybe $22K. Just like the ‘rage’ that started over VW 23-window buses. Sorry; I just don’t buy into the bullcrap.

        See? Surprised it isn’t $100K!

The fact that the knucklehead would drive this at 100 mph on the interstate is disturbing. He also has a ‘75 Bronco for sale with a $60K price tag.

Nice Bronco but I totally agree with Will Fox! I don’t get these high prices for old Broncos, VW vans, junk Porches, and rusty old Mopars?

The seat upholstery isn’t original, Jamie and the radiator overflow and battery tie down obviously aren’t either.

Thanks, Todd — I wondered about the upholstery but I did find a velour option listed.

If you can let me know the source that listed a velour option, I’d appreciate it!

I figured out what I did. I came across this: link and keyed in on the 1973-1979 reference in the title — duh! It’s from a later Bronco… :-)

You guys are impressive with your knowledge of these cars. That’s one of the things I love about this website: the amazing knowledge of some of the posters. Thanks for the info!

All good points, Gentlemen. Like Will said, you really need to go slow if you have never driven one of these or you will be rolling thru the woods like a beer barrel. Agreed too about the price, better get your dough now before the bubble busts. Not sure how these fads get started. My car collection has the distinction of having 3 cars that will never be worth anything.. Good luck to the new owner!!

The two Broncos have sequential plates on them so he probably went to DMV and got plates for them at the same time. Since he also has a 67-72 Chevy in his shop, I’m guessing he’s picking up these popular rigs and trying to flip them.

Original red paint like that in AZ? As a 41 yr resident of the Grand Canyon State, I’d say it’s pretty hard to do that with a vehicle that old unless it was garaged it’s entire life and rarely saw the outdoors.

And feeling safe at 100 mph? I wouldn’t feel safe at 100 mph in our race Bronco in Baja and it has 5 point harnesses, rollcage, helmet, and better brakes and steering than this rig.

I drove mine to work this morning at 60-65 mph and that feels just about right to me.

It just goes to show that depressed, aging baby-boomers,. with a little bit of discretionary cash, will gladly shell it out to buy a little piece of their once happy youth.

I would buy it just for the Igloo ice chest between the seats, but there better be some cold one inside.

For that price, there had better be 3 cases of ‘cold ones’ in there.

If you ever owned an original of one of these, they were a handy utilitarian vehicle and they provided some good memories. But I suspect anyone willing to pay $60K for one isnt going to take it to the woods where those original great memories were made.

Whoever drove this rig at 100 mph has more testicular fortitude than I could ever dream of. Or perhaps he’s of a “diminished” IQ.
