Tasty Swiss Find! 1964 Willys Overland

It’s not every day we get a tip from Switzerland, but thanks to Jeff for this one! The 1964 Willys Overland with what looks like an ambulance or other utility body currently resides in Orvin, Switzerland. The listing here on anibis.ch describes its condition and asks a mere 2000 Swiss Francs, about $2027 USD, for this partially restored service vehicle.

Four-wheel drive and deep lugged tires would help this Willys get to nearly anywhere it was needed.  My grandfather had a more common wagon-bodied Willys of this vintage years ago, and it served as base of operation for many hunting and fishing adventures.

I never studied French, but Google Translate suggests the seller is looking for a duplicate engine, and that this one is missing some parts that are still available. If the engine is original, kaiserwillys.com suggests it would be the 230 cid (3.8L) Tornado inline six-cylinder engine. The listing claims this unit is good for 100 HP.

Some assembly required, it would appear. The durable-looking interior looks ready to host a hunting or camping party, and brings to mind the inside of a ’60s travel trailer. How would you use this roomy four-wheel-drive utility vehicle?

Road trip in Wisconsin ? Sign me up. I remember some shortcuts. There’s still Model A’s behind barns in Northern Wisconsin.

Looks like it would be ready to take on
anything once it’s done. Looks kinda
like yours Mike! If the engine was toast,
    I’d go for a 3800 GM V-6 and a 4-speed
tranny. Great start on a project, but I
wouldn’t want the shipping costs that come with it.

Hey Ken, you got to get up here buddy, a little road trip with On and On and myself. We would find some Barn Finds. I hope the house is coming along. Glad the hurricane went North. Take care, Mike. Give that sister a hug for me. Say Ken, are you getting updates? Not here.

1964 was the last year Willys made the trucks and wagon. That motor is indeed the 230 OHC Tornado that replaces the 226 Hurricane 6 starting in May 1962. The rear body is custom, and pretty sweet!

It was probably made for and used by the swiss post to get up in the mountains to the small villages up there. All swisspost vehicles came in that dark grey color at that time, and many had purpose build bodies made by some swiss coachbuilder in small numbers. Shall I go and get it for one of you guys and ship it over to the states?

I’m not so sure about it being Swiss, but the little lights on the front fenders indicate it was a European Fire Fighting Jeep. Good luck finding a motor, they were rare to begin with. I think vintage military would be your best bet.

I had a 61 Willis over land with a 252 super hurricane motor!! That thing was unstoppable!! I really learned to hate the master cylinder mounted to the frame under the driver floor though!! But it was a great vehicle!!!
